SATURDAY
England vs Samoa – 30 August – click here to bet
England brushed aside the USA 69–7 in Sunderland, scoring 11 tries. Samoa meanwhile were hammered 73–0 by Australia.
The bookies took a while to come out with what is a massive handicap and potentially the biggest mismatch in Rugby World Cup history.
Handicap: England [-85.5] at 2.00
85.5 is massive but when England get on top tries will flow and 100 points is on.
Bet: England -85.5 at 1.00
USA vs Australia – 30 August – click here to bet
The USA couldn’t handle England, losing 69–7 but they stayed in the game for longer than many expected. The Wallaroos made a massive statement in Round 1, running in 11 tries in their 73–0 rout of Samoa.
Handicap: USA [+14.5} at 1.90
This is effectively for a place in the last 16 and I think it will be tight.
Bet: Under 52.5 points at 1.90
Canada vs Wales – 30 August – click here to bet
Canada were ruthless in their opener, putting Fiji away 65–7 with 11 tries. Wales meanwhile were second best against Scotland, going down 38–8 against their 6 Nations rivals.
Handicap: Canada [-45.5] at 1.91
Canada should be too strong here.
Bet: Canada -45.5 at 1.91
Scotland vs Fiji – 30 August – click here to bet
Scotland looked sharp in beating Wales 38–8, scoring six tries. Fiji, on the other hand, leaked heavily in a 65–7 loss to Canada although they scored one of the tries of the tournament.
Handicap: Scotland [-35.5] at 2.00
Fiji will have targeted this game and I think they beat the handicap.
Bet: Fiji +35.5 at 1.83
SUNDAY
Ireland vs Spain – 31 August – click here to bet
Ireland opened with a convincing 42–14 win over Japan, showing good balance in attack. Spain were no match for New Zealand, losing 54–8 but they beat the handicap by over 20 points.
Handicap: Ireland [-33.5] at 2.00
The Irish should win easy but the handicap looks about right.
Bet: No bet
New Zealand vs Japan – 31 August – click here to bet
The Black Ferns ran in eight tries in their 54–8 victory over Spain. Japan managed two tries against Ireland but conceded six.
Strange as it sounds, given the scoreline against Spain, but New Zealand come into the game under pressure to perform.
Handicap: New Zealand [-53.5] at 2.00
The Black Ferns will be too strong and I think they beat this handicap.
Bet: New Zealand -53.5 at 2.00
Italy vs South Africa – 31 August – click here to bet
Italy were blanked 24–0 by France, struggling to make any impact but showing admiral defensive qualities. South Africa delivered one of the standout wins of Round 1, crushing Brazil 66–6 with 10 tries
Handicap: Italy [-1.5] at 1.85
Like the Australia v USA game a quarter-final berth is on the line. I think South Africa have what it takes to take the win.
Bet: South Africa win at 2.00
France vs Brazil – 31 August – click here to bet
France were solid if unspectacular in a 24–0 win over Italy. Brazil were well beaten 66–6 by South Africa in their World Cup debut and this also looks a giant mismatch.
Handicap: France [-75.5] at 2.00
France by plenty and this score could even be bigger than England v Samoa
Bet: France -75.5 at 2.00
