Wales have been really battling and they celebrated last week’s 24–23 win over Japan as though they had won the Rugby World Cup. The relief was obvious as they delivered their new coach his first home victory and, more importantly, kept themselves inside the world’s top 12. The week before that, they were well beaten 28–52 by Argentina at the Principality Stadium, another reminder of just how far off the pace they currently are.
Wales Lineup:
1.Rhys Carre, 2. Dewi Lake (Captain), 3. Keiron Assiratti, 4. Dafydd Jenkins, 5. Adam Beard, 6. Alex Mann, 7. Harri Deaves, 8. Aaron Wainwright, 9. Tomos Williams, 10. Dan Edwards, 11. Tom Rogers, 12. Joe Hawkins, 13. Max Llewellyn, 14. Louis Rees-Zammit, 15. Blair Murray.
Replacements: 16. Brodie Coghlan, 17. Gareth Thomas, 18. Archie Griffin, 19. Freddie Thomas, 20. Taine Plumtree, 21. Kieran Hardy, 22. Jarrod Evans, 23. Nick Tompkins.
The All Blacks have been in far better form overall, but they were soundly beaten by England at Twickenham, going 33–19 despite racing into an early two-score lead. The week before, they allowed Scotland to claw back from 17–0 to 17–7 before eventually closing out a 25–18 win – more or less in line with market expectations. They will be keen to finish their tour on a high, and a thumping win over Wales will be firmly on their agenda.
New Zealand Lineup:
1.Tamaiti Williams, 2. Samisoni Taukei’aho, 3. Pasilio Tosi, 4. Scott Barrett (Captain), 5. Fabian Holland, 6. Simon Parker, 7. Du’Plessis Kirifi, 8. Wallace Sititi, 9. Cortez Ratima, 10. Damian McKenzie, 11. Caleb Clarke, 12. Anton Lienert-Brown, 13. Rieko Ioane, 14. Will Jordan, 15. Ruben Love.
Replacements: 16. George Bell, 17. Fletcher Newell, 18. George Bower, 19. Josh Lord, 20. Christian Lio-Willie, 21. Finlay Christie, 22. Leicester Fainga’anuku, 23. Sevu Reece.
Head-to-Head:
Their last meeting took place in Wales during 2022 where New Zealand, ran away with the math delivering a scoreline of 55-23. Their most recent meeting before that was in the RWC where New Zealand beat them 40-17.
Betting and Verdict
Match Odds:
- Wales: 18.00
- Draw: 76.00
- New Zealand: 1.02
Handicap: Wales +27.5
Wales have shown small signs of improvement, but the gulf in power, depth and consistency remains huge. Even with New Zealand rotating, the All Blacks should still have too much quality and tempo. A comfortable New Zealand win feels almost inevitable.
Suggested Bet: Total Points – Over 59.5 at 1.87
With Wales leaking heavily and the All Blacks capable of scoring from anywhere, this could open up and I am hoping the Welsh can contribute as well.
Suggest bet: 1st Try Scorer Ruben Love at 13.00
Many a New Zealand fan has been calling for Love’s inclusion although mainly at 10. He gets his shot at 15 and looks well priced to grab the 1st 5 pointer.
