Scotland come into this clash on the back of a dominant 85–0 win over the USA last weekend, a result that will boost confidence ahead of a much sterner test against the Kiwis. Their 2025 season has consisted of mixed form, with five wins and four defeats from nine fixtures.
Scotland began their mid-year campaign in July where they narrowly beat the Maori All Blacks 29-26, they then went on to face a shock 29-14 defeat to Fiji. Since then, they’ve bounced back strong, beating Samoa 41-12 away from home and as mentioned the USA last week.
Despite inconsistency, Scotland’s attacking play has been fluid, with Finn Russell, Darcy Graham, and Blair Kinghorn among their key threats. Defensively, however, lapses against stronger opposition remain a concern heading into this clash.
Scotland Lineup:
- Pierre Schoeman, 2. Ewan Ashman, 3. D’Arcy Rae, 4. Scott Cummings, 5. Grant Gilchrist (Vice-Captain), 6. Gregor Brown, 7. Matt Fagerson, 8. Jack Dempsey, 9. Ben White, 10. Finn Russell (Vice-Captain), 11. Kyle Steyn, 12. Sione Tuipulotu (Captain), 13. Rory Hutchinson, 14. Darcy Graham, 15. Blair Kinghorn.
Reserves: 16. George Turner, 17. Rory Sutherland, 18. Elliot Millar Mills, 19. Marshall Sykes, 20. Rory Darge, 21. Josh Bayliss, 22. Jamie Dobie, 23. Tom Jordan.
New Zealand’s build-up to this fixture has been impressive. Since the start of their 2025 international season in July, the All Blacks have recorded eight wins from ten matches. They kicked off their year with a 3-0 series sweep over a less than full strength France at home, before falling just short of the Rugby Championship title despite a 24-17 win over South Africa, two victories against Australia and one against Argentina that ended 41-24.
Their only real trouble came in a heavy 10-43 loss to the Springboks in mid-September, but they bounced back quickly with a 26-13 away victory over Ireland last weekend.
The team’s attacking sharpness under Scott Robertson have been standout features, with Ardie Savea, and Will Jordan continuing to lead from the front.
New Zealand Lineup:
- Ethan de Groot, 2. Codie Taylor (Vice-Captain), 3. Fletcher Newell, 4. Josh Lord, 5. Fabian Holland, 6. Wallace Sititi, 7. Ardie Savea (Captain), 8. Peter Lakai, 9. Cam Roigard, 10. Beauden Barrett (Vice-Captain), 11. Caleb Clarke, 12. Quinn Tupaea, 13. Leicester Fainga’anuku, 14. Leroy Carter, 15. Will Jordan.
Reserves: 16. Samisoni Taukei’aho, 17. Tamaiti Williams, 18. Pasilio Tosi, 19. Sam Darry, 20. Du’Plessis Kirifi, 21. Cortez Ratima, 22. Billy Proctor, 23. Damian McKenzie.
Head-to-Head:
Historically, New Zealand have dominated this fixture and have a 19 match win streak at Murrayfield. Their latest meeting came in 2022 when they played at Murrayfield, and the Kiwis edged the contest 31-23. Prior to that they played in 2017 where New Zealand won 22-17 away from home.
Betting and Verdict:
Scotland 3.65
Draw 26.00
New Zealand 1.36
Handicap: Scotland [+7.5]
BET:
New Zealand have found rhythm after a strong year, and while Scotland will fancy their chances at home, the All Blacks’ power, pace, and precision across all areas of play should see them edge clear in the second half. I am expecting Scotland to keep things tight early on before the visitors pull away.
Suggested Bet: New Zealand -9.5 at 2.10
BET:
The 1st half could be competitive but I fancy the All Blacks to shade it and given how strongly they finished last week I fancy them to take the 2nd half as well.
Suggested Bet: Either team to win both halves: Yes at 2.10
