Only two teams remain in this years Currie Cup and on Saturday the Lions will host the Sharks in Johannesburg as both sides battle it out to be crowned champion.
We look at the match from a betting angle and share a suggested play on the game.
Lions v Sharks – Click here to bet
The Lions finished top of the table after winning 9 of their 10 matches. Their only loss came against the Sharks at home in the 4th round of the group stages. They managed to score 437 points while only conceding 215 in all ten of those matches. Their semi-final fixture was against the Cheetahs at home where they won the match 43-34 after recovering from a slow start.
The Sharks had a poor start to the season losing their first three games, but they managed to turn things around to win 6 matches and draw another. They scored 351 points while conceding 281. The Sharks travelled to Loftus last weekend for their semi-final where they drew the match in dramatic style after 80 minutes and then extra time but went through based on the most tries scored.
Head-to-Head
The two sides last met in round four up in Johannesburg where the Sharks recorded their first win of the season with the match ending 22-35. The sides have faced off 5 times in the Currie Cup over the last two years with the Lions winning three of the five matches.
Betting
The Lions are favourites to win after their impressive group stages and the fact they are at home and they are trading at 1.65. The Sharks will go into the match as the underdogs and are trading at 2.50 with the draw quoted at 23.00.
The handicap at the time of writing is Lions [-3.5] at 1.95.
Verdict
The Lions have had a brilliant season but although they beat the Cheetahs by 9 last week they were 14 point favourites and the match proved costly for many punters. The Sharks have had the best run of form of any team going 8 matches in a row without loss. Last weeks win in Pretoria aside they also managed to beat the Lions away from home and I think they can cause a minor upset and lift the cup.
BET: Sharks to win at 2.50.
There will be loads of markets available as kick off approaches including first and last try scorer and total points.
