The 10th and final round of group stage matches in the 2024 Currie Cup kicks off on Friday where the Griquas will host Western Province followed by the Lions against the Griffons. Saturday will see the Cheetahs travel to take on the Pumas while Sunday sees the Sharks host the Bulls.
We will take a look at these four matches from a betting angle and share our suggested bets.
FRIDAY
Griquas v Western Province – Click here to bet
Both teams are currently sitting on 19 points after 3 wins and 6 loses. The Griquas have won 2 of their last 5 matches where they pulled off an impressive win last weekend at home against the Cheetahs. Province have also won 2 of their last 5 matches. They hosted the Pumas last weekend where they won the match 39-30.
Head-to-Head
The two sides last met in last year’s Currie Cup where the Griquas won both matches home and away. In fact, Province last beat the Griquas in the 2020 Currie Cup which means they have lost their last 6 matches in a row to them.
Province are favourites to win the match and are trading at 1.20 while the Griquas are trading at 5.00.
Both teams have not had their best seasons and so it should be a close match, however, if we look at Provinces’ form against the Griquas it seems that the Griquas have the upper hand. I can see the Griquas pulling off yet another win despite WP bringing some URC players into the mix.
Handicap: Western Province [-13.5]
BET: Griquas to win at 5.00.
Lions v Griffons – Click here to bet
The Lions pulled off a huge win last weekend against the Bulls winning the match 33-57 to go top of the Currie Cup table with one match to go. They have won 8 of their 9 matches this season. The Griffons had a weekend to forget last weekend, travelling to Durban to take on the Sharks and losing the match 75-19. They are yet to win a match this season.
Head-to-Head
The Lions have won the last four encounters between the two sides. The most recent encounters took place in last years Currie Cup with the matches ending 22-39 and 41-26, both in favour of the Lions.
The Lions are heavy favourites to win the match and are trading at 1.01 while the Griffons are trading at 19.00.
The Lions have been dominating all season and don’t look like stopping any time soon as they prepare for the semi-finals. I can see them putting up a big total against the Griffons.
Handicap: Lions [-44.5]
BET: Handicap, Lions [-44.5] at 1.85.

SATURDAY
Pumas v Cheetahs – Click here to bet
The Pumas are coming off the back of a 39-30 loss to Western Province away from home last weekend. They are now sitting 5th on the table and will need to beat the Cheetahs if they want to qualify for the semi-finals. The Cheetahs are also coming off a loss from last weekend where they travelled to play the Griquas but lost the match 44-31. The Cheetahs will need to beat or draw against the Pumas if they want to remain at 4th on the table so this is basically a quarterfinal.
Head-to-Head
The two sides met three times in last years Currie Cup with the Cheetahs winning two out of the three matches. The most recent fixture, played in Bloemfontein, ended 25-17 in favour of the Cheetahs.
The Cheetahs are narrow favourites to win and are trading at 1.90 while the Pumas are trading at 2.05. The Cheetahs have lost their last three matches in a row, and I think this will play into the Pumas hands. The Pumas will be ready to give it their all, in front of their home fans and I am backing them to qualify for the semi-finals.
Handicap: Pumas [+0.5]
BET: Pumas to win at 2.05
SUNDAY
Sharks v Bulls – Click here to bet
Both teams have already qualified for the next round and will use this week as preparation for the semi-finals. The Sharks are coming off the back of a 75-19 win against the Griffons at home. They have hit a remarkable run of form, winning their last 4 matches in a row. The Bulls are coming off their first defeat of the season. They lost 33-57 to the Lions in Midrand last weekend.
Head-to-Head
The two sides met twice in this years URC competition with the Bulls winning both matches, however, the last fixture between the two sides in the Currie Cup was won by the Sharks 27-41. The Bulls will be hungry to fix their mistakes from last weekend and should be able to halt the Sharks impressive form.
Handicap: Bulls [-1.5]
BET: Handicap, Bulls [-1.5] at 1.85
