The final pool round of this year’s Currie Cup takes place this weekend, with only four teams advancing to the semi-finals. The Bulls, Sharks, and Western Province are already out of contention, leaving the Pumas as the only side outside the current top four with a chance to qualify. We’ll look at all four fixtures from a betting perspective and highlight a few suggested plays.

FRIDAY
SHARKS v PUMAS – click here to bet
The Sharks endured a nightmare start to their campaign, losing their opening four matches. However, they’ve bounced back with consecutive wins over Western Province and Boland, their latest being a narrow 33-31 home victory against Boland.
The Pumas have won three of their six pool matches, including impressive away victories over the Bulls and Western Province. Last weekend, they put in one of their best performances yet, thrashing Western Province 39-13 in Cape Town.
Head-to-Head
The Sharks and Pumas have each won two of their last five encounters, with the other match ending in a thrilling 44-44 draw last season.
Betting and Verdict
- Sharks 1.60
- Pumas 2.60
- Draw 23.00
- Handicap: Sharks -4.5
The Sharks are priced as favourites, but their overall season form has been poor. The Pumas, by contrast, are still chasing a semi-final berth and have shown they can travel well, winning both in Pretoria and Cape Town. With momentum on their side, I lean towards the upset.
