The 2023 Ryder Cup takes place at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome starting Friday, September 29th till Sunday 1st October
The USA were convincing winners of the 2021 Ryder Cup winning 19-9 at Whistling Straits. They have been quite firm favourites leading into this week’s event, but the money has poured onto the Europeans to the point where they have just taken over favouritism at the time of writing this preview.
FORMAT
Day 1 and Day 2 will consist of 4 ball matches and foursome matches with 4 players from each team sitting out each session. 4 balls is a traditional better ball format where each player hits his own ball whereas foursome sees players alternate shots and this is a discipline that the USA have tended to do well in over the years.
On Sunday all 12 players will take part in the singles.

Europe 1/1
USA 11/10
Draw 11/1
The Ryder Cup is one of my favourite betting events and I will be glued to the screen from start to finish.
Here are my selections:
Suggested Bet: Europe to win at 1/1
The money has come for Europe and I fully agree with the punters that are steaming in. The USA were in dominant form at Whistling Straits, but on the road have not featured well of late and they have had something of a controversial build up with all but Brooks Koepka of the LIV golfers ignored and the out of form Justin Thomas selected on past glories in this format.
I can’t help but feel how much stronger they would have been with the likes of Dustin Johnson and Bryson Dechambeau in the line-up.
I am expecting it to be a close contest, but with the Europeans to prevail.
Suggested Bet: Top USA Rookie, Wyndham Clark at 26/10
Wyndham Clark is coming off an impressive season and although he has limited match play experience at professional level he strikes me as the sort of player who is going to take to the format. To land this bet he needs to beat favourite, Max Homa, Sam Burns and Open Champion, Brian Harman.
Suggested Bet: Margin of Victory, Europe 1 to 3 points at 15/4
This bet is more for those who don’t fancy taking the 1/1 about a European win and are looking for something at a larger price. I don’t think there is much between these teams at all and I think it could come down to the final singles matches late on Sunday. For this bet to arrive Europe must win, but by no more than 3 points.
Suggested Bet: Top Team Points Scorer USA, Patrick Cantlay at 11/2
Cantlay loves this format and is well proven in professional team format matches and is likely to form a partnership with Xander Schauffele with the pair having a great record together. Cantlay also has an excellent singles record.
Suggested Bet: Top Team Points Scorer Europe, Viktor Hovland at 5/1
Hovland finished the PGA Tour season in fine style taking the FedEx Cup. He had a nightmare debut in 2021 losing 3 of his matches and halving 2, but importantly he played 5 games and I am expecting the same this week only Hovland is a much better player than what he was then.
There will be betting on all of the different formats as well as the individual matches throughout the weekend.
