The USA will be chasing their 10th successive Presidents Cup victory when the action gets underway at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec Canada on Thursday. We take a look at the 2024 Presidents Cup from a betting angle.
FORMAT
Let’s start with a look at the format. There will be a potential 30 points up for grabs, 2 more than the Ryder Cup. On Thursday we have 5 foursomes matches followed by 5 fourballs on Friday, on Saturday we have 4 foursomes and 4 fourballs and finally the 12 Sunday singles.
THE COURSE
The Royal Montreal Blue Course last hosted the Canadian Open 10 years ago. It is a flat parkland course with water in-play on the back 9. The greens are small by regular Tour standards and I would expect that Canadian Captain, Mike Weir asked for the fairways to be as narrow as possible to reward accuracy over length.

USA 1/3
It is hard to look past the favourites, the USA here with the average world ranking of just 12.42 while the Internationals average is pushing 35. Still while the Internationals lack the star power of the US team, they have a number of players in form and will hope to give a good account of themselves on this course which should be set up to suit them and close the gap slightly.
I am not going to be betting on the match result which, will be updated in-running as there are plenty of other betting markets for punters to sink their teeth into.
MARGIN OF VICTORY
The USA have had some big victories over the years, but the Internationals tend to push them closer when hosting. I am going to go for a comfortable, but not a runaway victory for the visitors.
BET: Margin of Victory, USA by 4-6 at 7/2.

Top International Points Scorer – Christiaan Bezuidenhout at 14/1
Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama lead this market at 6/1 and I am certainly tempted by Matsuyama who has had a great season.
This can be a tricky market to bet on and can throw up huge upsets and much will depend on who gets 5 full matches. Christiaan Bezuidenhout hasn’t been in the best form of late, but South Africans are known for their Matchplay ability (at least they used to be) and he certainly looks worth a patriotic punt at the price.

Top Combined Points Scorer – Xander Schauffele at 8/1
I expect a US player to be the Top Combined Scorer so I won’t get involved in the top US market, but rather look for the slightly bigger prices in the Combined Scorer market. Scottie Scheffler is the market leader at 13/2 ahead of Schauffele at 8/1. Schauffele should form a strong partnership with Patrick Cantlay (17/2) and I expect him to be slightly better suited to this course than Scheffler. I will be surprised if Furyk doesn’t give Schauffele all 5 rounds.

There are 5 matches taking place on day 1 and the USA are 7/10 to win the session with the Internationals 19/10 and the draw 9/2. If you are to take the Draw No Bet option, the Internationals are 16/10 with the USA 9/20. I am going to go for a slightly speculative Correct Score play and say that the US will be leading 3.5-1.5 at the end of Day 1.
