The third major of the year is upon us as the best players in the world fight it out for the US Open at Pinehurst No 2 in North Carolina. We look at what promises to be a thrilling contest from a betting angle.
The Course
The venue for this year’s US Open is Pinehurst No. 2. Located 100 miles east of Charlotte, North Carolina, Pinehurst No. 2 is a parkland course that tests every level of golfer and is known to be an extremely tough challenge. It has wider than average fairways, however, if a ball is to just miss the fairway it will most likely end up in a sandy area and at that point the lie is something of a lottery. The greens are rapid and require a good touch all week and position your approach shots in the right spots on the greens will be crucial.
The course plays over 7500 yards (6858m), longer than the PGA Tour average.
Market Leaders
After yet another win last weekend, Scottie Scheffler is favourite to win this weekend and is trading at 3.80. Xander Schauffele, who won the most recent major (PGA Championship), is second favourite together with Rory McIlroy at 11.00 to win.
Jon Rahm the 2021 Champion is a late withdrawal.

Selections:
Scottie Scheffler at 3.80
Scheffler has continued his unbelievable run of form as he won the Memorial last weekend. In his last 6 starts on tour he has won three times, finished runner-up twice and finished eighth on the other occasion being the PGA Championship where he was distracted by a run in with the law. Scheffler will be looking for his third career major and to win the US Open for the first time and I cannot leave him out of my staking plan.
Suggested bet: To win outright at 3.80.
Collin Morikawa at 15.00
Morikawa’s game has been on top form recently, finishing in the top 10 in 5 of his last 7 starts on tour. He finished runner-up at last week’s Memorial Tournament, one shot behind Scheffler. He will look to carry this momentum into this week (he has finished 3rd and 4th in his last 2 majors) and win himself his third major title.
Suggested bet: Each way at 15.00.
Sepp Straka at 91.00
Straka has been on some hot form recently. In his last seven starts on tour, he has finished in the top twenty on two occasions, the top ten on one occasion and the top five on three occasions. He disappointed in the PGA Championships where he missed the cut but if he continues his upward career trajectory which has seen him 2nd in the Open Championship and 16th in the Masters he has a high chance of putting his name near the top of the leaderboard.
Suggested bet: Each way at 91.00 and a Top 10 finish at 6.50.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout at 126.00
It has been a long time since a South African has won a major and although Bezuidenhout is a long shot here he has been in some good form with 4 top 20’s including a 3rd and a 4th place (last week). He has yet to produce in the Majors and missed the cut in the PGA Champs but South Africans are known to be grinders and that is what will be required this week.
Suggested Bet: A small each way interest at 125/1 and a bet on a top 10 finish at 8.50
