This week the PGA Tour will play the John Deere Classic in Illinois at the TPC Deere Run course. We cast our eye over the betting and suggest a few plays.
There are only two weeks are left before the last major of the year and many players will be putting in their final preparations before heading across the pond.
The Course
TPC Deere Run will host this week’s tournament. The parkland course has lots of trees and dense wooded areas that will penalise errant shots. The tournament is often a low scoring tournament with the winning score often -20 or better. The par 71 course plays just under 6675 metres. While distance off the tee is always an asset it is less so this week and finding the Greens and a hot putter will be crucial.
Market Leaders
A number of top golfers are sitting out this week which means the field is right open for potential winners. The bookies have Sungjae Im as favourite to win trading at 15.00. Next in line is Sepp Straka the defending champion at 17.00 followed by Jordan Spieth and Aaron Rai at 21.00 with Denny McCarthy and Davis Thompson both at 23.00.

Straka will be looking to defend his title going into this week after winning last year’s tournament. He has been on a solid run of form recently after three top 5 and one top 10 finishes in his last eight starts. He finished tied 23rd at last start in the Travelers Championship two weeks ago.
Suggested bet: Each way at 17.00.
Samuel Stevens at 51.00
Stevens has been on a decent run of form recently with three top 10 finishes in his last six starts. With a number of top players sitting out this week this could be another chance for a top 10 finish this week. Stevens missed the cut at last years John Deere classic but will be looking for a better performance this year.
Suggested bet: Win at 51.00 and a Top 10 finish at 5.50.
Jordan Spieth at 21.00
Spieth has a brilliant record at the John Deere Classic, although he has not played in the tournament since 2015, he has won it twice, in 2013 and 2015 and finished 7th in 2014. Spieth has been on a mediocre run of form for a golfer of his calibre but will be looking to use his memories of the John Deere Classic to get back on form going into the Open. In this field he must be a runner.
