FedEx St. Jude Championship 2024 Betting Preview

A quality field takes to the 1st tee this week as the PGA Tour heads to Memphis, Tennessee for the FedEx St. Jude Championship. This is the first of this year’s FedEx Cup Playoffs, so a lot is on the line and we look at the tournament from a betting angle.

Course

TPC Southwind plays host to this week’s tournament. The course is a gentle undulating layout with tree-lined fairways throughout. It becomes quite narrow at stages so precision driving and iron play will be a key going into this weekend. The greens at TPC Southwind are much smaller than PGA Tour average and will be a test for the best of golfers. The par 70 plays 7,244 yards.

Past Winners

2023     Lucas Glover (United States)                    -15         Playoff

The bookies have world number 1 and recent Olympic gold medallist Scottie Scheffler as favourite to win trading at 4.33 and it will take a brave man to bet against him.

Two-time major winner Xander Schauffele is trading at 8.00 after fading badly on Sunday at the Olympics followed by Rory McIlroy at 9.50. Collin Morikawa is trading at 13.00 followed by the young sensation Ludvig Aberg at 21.00.

Scottie Scheffler            4.33

Xander Schauffele         8.00

Rory McIlroy                     9.50

Collin Morikawa              13.00

Ludvig Aberg                     21.00

Patrick Cantlay                 23.00

Tommy Fleetwood         26.00

SELECTIONS:

Scottie Scheffler at 4.33

It is nearly impossible to bet against Scheffler this year. He has won three of the last five events he has played in as well as finishing 7th in the Open. Scheffler has won 7 events this year and does not look like slowing down. He delivered a brilliant Sunday at the Olympics to secure  a gold medal that looked unlikely at the start of play. His record here isn’t great but it isn’t bad with 2 top 15’s in the last 4 years.

Scottie Scheffler to win at 4.33

Aaron Rai at 46.00

Rai is coming off the back of an impressive win last weekend at the Wyndham Championship, winning the tournament by 2 shots. In the four tournaments he took part in before last weekend he finished in the top 10 on three of the four occasions with the best finish being 2nd at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The question will be if he is able to produce another solid performance now that most of the top players on the PGA Tour are back. Rai has a best finish of 12th at this tournament.

Aaron Rai each way at 46.00 and a larger bet on a top 10 finish at 4.33

Will Zalatoris at 111.00

Zalatoris has an impressive record at the FedEx St Jude Championship. He has taken part in the tournament twice, finishing 8th in his first appearance in 2021. He then went on to win the tournament in 2022. Zalatoris has missed his last three cuts in a row but will be hoping that coming back to a place with nothing, but good memories will be just what he needs to get back on the right track.

Will Zalatoris small each way punt at 111.00 and a bigger play to finish Top 20 at 3.40
