The PGA Tour travels to Florida for the start of a run of tournaments to be played in the State. The PGA National Championship course plays host to the Cognizant Classic and we select 4 players to take on the bookmakers.
Most fans know this tournament as the Honda Classic, however, the name changed to the Cognizant Classic last year.
The tournament will be played at PGA National for the 19th consecutive time.
The Course
The PGA National Championship Course is a well-known course that has been on the tour for numerous years. Located north of Miami, the par-70 course plays 7,125 yards.
Water is plentiful, and with well-placed bunkers guarding fairways and greens, an accurate game from tee to green is essential. The greens will be a bit faster than the last few weeks of the tour have been as PGA National is laid with trickier Bermuda Grass.
This course is always a good challenge for the tours top golfers and if the wind blows it can be a really tough test.

Selections:
Sepp Straka at 26.00
Straka goes into this week off the back of a hot start on this year’s PGA Tour. He has already secured a win, a seventh-place finish and two top fifteen finishes this year. Straka also won the tournament back in 2022 and went on to finish fifth the next year. He will be looking to put in another strong performance this week as he continues to rack up FedEx Cup points.
Suggested bet: Sepp Straka each way at 26.00.
Shane Lowry at 21.00
There must be something about PGA National that Lowry loves because he has finished in the top five in all of his last three starts at the tournament. His best result was runner-up in 2022 and he finished fourth at last years event. Lowry finished runner-up at his second last start on tour, finishing only three shots behind Rory McIlroy at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Suggested bet: Shane Lowry each way at 21.00.
Michael Kim at 51.00
Kim has had a brilliant three weeks on tour, with three top fifteen finishes in all of his last three starts. His best finish was runner-up at the Phoenix Open where if it were not for Thomas Detry running away with the tournament, he would have stood a good chance. Kim will look to continue this momentum as he heads into this week’s tournament.
Suggested bet: Michael Kim each way at 51.00 and a Top 20 finish at 3.25.
Erik Van Rooyen at 111.00
Van Rooyen was runner up her last year after battling with the course in his 3 previous visits. He hasn’t been in great form mixing missed cuts with midfield finishes but I am backing the South African to go well on a course where he has good memories.
Suggested bet: Erik Van Rooyen each way at 111.00 and a Top 20 finish at 5.50
