BMW Championship 2024 Betting Preview

BMW CHAMPIONSHIP

The FedEx Cup is nearing its climax and this week the Top 50 players head to the Castle Pines Golf Course in Colorado for the BMW Championship with the Top 30 going through to contest the Tour Championship.

We select 3 players to take on the bookmakers.

THE COURSE

Castle Pines Golf Club makes it return to the PGA Tour for the first time since 2006 when it hosted a Stableford event known as The International.

The Jack Nicklaus designed course plays to a par 72 and stretches to 7,434 metres which makes it one of the longer courses the pros will play, however, this is negated by the high altitude.

It is difficult to say what sort of play will be favoured this week although I suspect that length off the tee will be a key factor, even given the high altitude.  I will be basing my selections on the strong current form and the last 5 winners of the tournament have all been priced under 30/1 before the off.

MARKET LEADERS

Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele have won three Majors between them this season and they are first and second on the FedEx Cup Standings respectively.  Matsuyama moved up into 3rd after his excellent victory last week with Collin Morikawa in 4th and Rory Mcilroy rounding out the Top 5.

Looking at players at or around the bubble we have Brian Harman sitting in 29th spot while in 31st is Tommy Fleetwood, Max Fitzpatrick is another big name sitting outside the Top 30 currently in 36th.

Scheffler and Schauffele are holding form well with Scheffler finishing 4th last week behind Matsuyama and Schauffele 2nd.  Rory Mcilroy had a disappointing Tournament finishing 68th out of 70 players.

SELECTIONS

Victor Hovland each way at 18/1

Hovland has had a disappointing year, but he has shown glimpses of his best form and last week finished runner-up to Matsuyama.  He is a man who has shown he can perform on the big occasion and he is, of course, the defending FedEx Cup Champion.

Hideki Matsuyama each way at 18/1

There is no hotter player in the World over the last few weeks with his victory last week been preceded by a 3rd place finish in his penultimate start at the Olympics.  He wobbled in the final round of the Fedex St Jude Championship last week, but ended up finding his game and will have taken a lot from the fact that he got the job done.

Nick Dunlap each way at 70/1

As mentioned above the Tournament has gone to players at the top of the betting boards in recent times, but I think Nick Dunlap deserves a few rand thrown his way.  He finished 5th last week and that broke a run of two missed cuts, but prior to that he had a victory and, in fact, he has had a win, a Top 5 and a Top 10 in his last 6 starts.  Unfortunately the other 3 were missed cuts so consistency is the problem when it comes to Dunlap.  He is playing confident golf though and if he can build on last week’s performance, he must be a big runner.
