The Genesis Scottish Open 2025 Betting Preview

We head to Scotland this week for the final tune-up before the Open Championship, as the world’s best golfers tee it up at the Genesis Scottish Open. This prestigious event offers a true links challenge at the Renaissance Club, providing ideal preparation for next week’s major at Royal Portrush. As usual we’ll be approaching the tournament from a betting perspective and have identified four players we think offer value to take on the bookmakers.

The Course – Renaissance Club

Located in North Berwick on Scotland’s East Lothian coast, the Renaissance Club is a modern links course that has quickly become a fixture on the professional calendar. Designed by Tom Doak and opened in 2008, the course plays to a par 70 and features a mixture of traditional and modern links characteristics, with several holes running along the Firth of Forth.

This will be the seventh consecutive year the course hosts the Scottish Open, having debuted in 2019 when Bernd Wiesberger won with an impressive -22 total. While the winning scores have varied since then, much depends on the weather — and this week, players are expected to contend with breezy, partly cloudy conditions across the four days. With wind being a constant factor, shot-shaping, low ball flights, and strong scrambling will be key attributes for success.

Past Winners

2024      Robert MacIntyre (Scotland)                                    -18

2023     Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland)                               -15

2022     Xander Schauffele (United States)                             -7

2021     Min Woo Lee (Australia)                                          -18

2020     Aaron Rai (England)                                                  -11

The bookies have world number one Scottie Scheffler as favourite to win this week, trading at 4.60. Rory McIlroy is trading at 9.00 while Xander Schauffele is trading at 19.00 for the win.

Scheffler is a worthy favourite based on current form but with his eye no doubt on The Open I think he is worth taking on.

SELECTIONS:

Robert MacIntyre at 34.00

Robert MacIntyre returns to his national open as the defending champion, hoping to make it back-to-back titles at the Scottish Open. The left-hander from Oban will have the full support of the home crowd, and he arrives in excellent form, having strung together four top-20 finishes in his last five PGA Tour starts.

Most notably, MacIntyre finished runner-up at the U.S. Open, held at the notoriously difficult Oakmont Country Club — a performance that highlighted both his mental toughness and ball-striking prowess under extreme pressure. With his confidence high and familiarity with links golf, he looks well-positioned to challenge for the title once again this week. A repeat victory would be no surprise.

Tommy Fleetwood at 23.00

Tommy Fleetwood heads to Scotland looking to bounce back from one of the most frustrating weeks of his PGA Tour career. The Englishman held the 54-hole lead at the Travelers Championship a fortnight ago and looked poised to finally break through for his maiden PGA Tour victory. However, he was caught on Sunday and ultimately lost in a playoff to Keegan Bradley — another near-miss in a string of close calls.

Fleetwood now returns to more familiar ground on the DP World Tour, and the Scottish Open is a tournament that suits him well. He’s recorded three top-six finishes in his last five appearances at this event, underlining his comfort on links layouts. Motivated to put the disappointment behind him and build momentum ahead of The Open, Fleetwood could be a serious contender this week.

Sam Burns at 41.00

Sam Burns arrives in Scotland on the back of a strong run of form, having finished 19th or better in each of his last five starts. The American has been consistently contending, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the RBC Canadian Open and an impressive seventh-place showing at the U.S. Open, where he remained in the mix deep into Sunday.

Burns has the kind of all-around game that can travel well to links conditions, especially if the putter heats up — one of his biggest weapons. With momentum on his side and confidence building ahead of The Open, he’s a dangerous player in this field and could easily feature on the leaderboard come Sunday.

Thomas Detry at 91.00

Thomas Detry returns to action after a short break, looking to build on some quietly consistent form. The Belgian has posted a top-20 and a top-25 finish in his last three starts, showing signs that his game is trending in the right direction.

Crucially, Detry has a strong track record at the Renaissance Club — finishing runner-up in 2021 and adding a top-10 finish to his name the following year. With fresh legs and proven comfort on this course, he’s a lively outsider who could be in contention if he brings his A-game this week.
