After a week’s break, Formula 1 heads to the streets of Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Baku City Circuit is one of the most unpredictable tracks on the calendar, and we will take a look at the race from a betting perspective with a few suggested wagers.
PREVIOUS RACE – Italian GP
Max Verstappen returned to the winner’s circle after winning the Italian GP two weeks ago. After qualifying first and losing the lead early in the race he came back brilliantly to beat Lando Norris who finished in second while Oscar Piastri managed to finish in third.

CONSTRUCTORS CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Azerbaijan GP 2024
Last year, Oscar Piastri delivered a commanding performance in Baku, beating Charles Leclerc by a comfortable margin. George Russell claimed another podium finish in third, while Lando Norris and Max Verstappen fought hard for points, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
The Track – Baku City Circuit
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is held on the Baku City Circuit, a unique blend of high-speed straights and tight street corners:
- Length: 6.003 km (the second-longest track on the F1 calendar)
- Laps: 51
- Layout: Famous for its 2.2 km main straight, where cars reach speeds over 350 km/h, and its tricky old-town section featuring the narrow Turn 8 castle corner.
- Racing Style: A real mix of Monaco-style technical driving with Monza-style speed. The track is notorious for safety cars and unpredictable results.
- Strategy: Overtaking is possible thanks to DRS on the long straights, but teams must balance low downforce for speed with enough grip to survive the twisty middle sector.
This combination of tight corners, fast straights, and the risk of incidents often produces chaotic and entertaining races.

VERDICT
The bookmakers still have Oscar Piastri as the favourite, and with good reason. He has enjoyed the best season of his F1 career and remains on track for the Drivers’ Championship. Another win here would give him a commanding lead in the title race.
Suggested Bet: Oscar Piastri to win at 2.70.
