World Cup T20 Super Eights action continues on Thursday the 26th of February when the West Indies meet South Africa in Match 47 in Ahmedabad and India and Zimbabwe meet in Match 48 in Chennai. We take a look at both matches from a betting angle and offer up some bets for consideration.

Let’ s start with a look at the Outright Betting where India are the favourites priced at 3.00 followed by South Africa at 3.50 with England who have already qualified for the semi’s at 4.50 and New Zealand 8.50.  The West Indies are trading at 11.00 and you can get 26.00 and better the balance.

Please note betting will be suspended during matches.

Super Eights Format

There are two groups of four.  Each team will play three matches and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

MATCH 47

WEST INDIES

The West Indies finished top of Group C in the Group Stages, and they are top of Group 1 in the Super Eights on 2 points.

West Indies were up against Zimbabwe in their first Super Eights match.  Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The West Indies were posted a huge total of 254/6 in their 20 overs, the second-highest team total in T20 World Cup history.  Key batsmen were Hetmyer with 85 off 34 balls, Powell 59 off 35 and Rutherford 31 off 13 not out.  The batting display demonstrates why West Indies are always dangerous in the shortest format and can beat any team on their day.  They then bowled Zimbabwe out for 147 in 17.4 overs and winning the match by 107 runs.

Shimron Hetmyer was Player of the Match.

SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa topped Group D in the Group Stages, and they are 2nd in the Super Eights Group 1 equal on 2 points with the West Indies who are ahead on the net run rate.

They were up against India in their first Super Eights match, they won the toss and elected to bat setting a total of 187 for seven in their 20 overs.  They then restricted India to 111 in reply with excellent bowling and good fielding, winning by 76 runs.

The top batsmen for South Africa were Brevis with 45 off 29 balls, Miller who faced 35 balls scored  63 which included 7 fours and 3 sixes and Stubbs was not out with 44 off 24 balls.

In the bowling department Jansen, in his 3.5 overs took 4 wickets for 22 runs and he had good support from Maharaj, 3 for 24 in his 3 overs and Bosch, 2 for 12 in 3 overs.   David Miller was named Player of the Match.

West Indies 2.70

South Africa 1.49

South Africa look worthy favourites here, but West Indies are a dangerous side and if I do back South Africa it would be in-running at longer odds.  Fortunately, there are plenty of other bets to get involved in.

BET:  Match Top Batsman, Aiden Markram at 6.25

Markram has been South Africa’ s top run scorer, scoring 182 runs at an average of 45.5 and he looked in superb touch in the victory over India.  Opening the batting we know he is going to get time at the crease and can well be the anchor around which the South African innings is built.

BET:  Player of the Match, Lungi Ngidi at 16.00

Ngidi already has two of these awards  to his credit and although he didn’t get a wicket against India his bowling was superb and he played a key role in putting the Indians under pressure and on another day, he could have had three or four wickets, and he looks a very tempting price in this market.

MATCH 48

INDIA

India topped Group A in the group stages and are 3rd in Super Eights Group 1 on 0 points due to losing to South Africa in their first game.

Jasprit Bumrah was brilliant with the ball taking 3-15 in his 4 overs and Shivam Dube was the stand out bat with 42 off 37 balls in the middle order.

ZIMBABWE

Zimbabwe finished top of Group B in the group stages but are bottom of Super Eights Group 1 after losing their first match against the West Indies.

They won the toss in their game against the West Indies and elected to bowl.  The West Indies then demonstrated a powerful batting lineup and posted 254/6 in their 20 overs.  Zimbabwe could only manage to reach 147 all out in 17.4 overs.  Brad Evans, top scored with 43 off 21 balls which included 2 fours and 5 sixes but it was too little, too late.

India 1.06

Zimbabwe 10.00

As expected, this is a one-sided affair betting heat, and while there may be in-running actions in the outright market, it is more likely the Exotic Markets that will provide a betting interest.

BET:  Zimbabwe Innings Top Wicket Taker, Sikandar Raza at 5.00

Raza has been less effective with the ball than the bat in this Tournament, but he was superb in the SA20, and I think the Zimbabwean skipper can get amongst the wickets.

BET:  Top Match Batsman, Tilak Varma at 5.50

Varma has struggled in this Tournament to date, scoring 107 runs at an average of just 21.4.  He was disappointing against South Africa but remained a class act and I am backing him to come good in a game that India simply have to win.
