DURBAN SUPER GIANTS
In the first Qualifier, the Durban Super Giants faced the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Cape Town. They lost the toss and had to bowl first. The Super Giants started slowly but managed to restrict the Sunrisers to 157/8 in their 20 overs with Maharaj and Dala each picking up 2 wickets.
The Super Giants had a slow start to the run chase, losing three wickets before reaching the 15-run mark. A decent partnership between Mulder (38) and Klaasen (23), however, brought the Super Giants back into the game. Unfortunately, this resurgence was short-lived as the Super Giants were then bowled out for only 106 runs in the last over. This loss resulted in them being pushed into the second Qualifier, which they’ll need to win to stay in the tournament and make the final.
JOBURG SUPER KINGS
In the Joburg Super Kings Eliminator game, they faced the Paarl Royals in Johannesburg, winning the toss and opting to bowl first. They took some early punishment before getting amongst the wickets and an impressive four-wicket performance from Sam Cook (in his 1st appearance) resulted in the Royals being bowled out for only 138 runs in the 19th over.
The Super Kings quickly took control of the chase with du Plooy and du Plessis both delivering half-century performances as openers. The Super Kings never looked in danger and comfortably chased down the 138 runs in the 14th over, losing only one wicket in the process. Du Plooy (68) and Du Plessis (55*) were the major contributors. This win gave the Super Kings a shot at making the final despite winning only 3 matches in the regular season.
HEAD TO HEAD
These two sides have faced each other twice in the tournament so far. The Durban Super Giants managed to secure the first win by 37 runs in Durban, while the Joburg Super Kings claimed victory in the second game by 7 wickets chasing down 204 to win at the Wanderers to book their spot in the playoffs.
