Match 41 of the T20 World Cup takes place in Colombo on Saturday 21st February, and sees New Zealand playing Pakistan in the 1st of the Super Eights matches. We look at the match from a betting angle and offer up some bets for consideration.

Super Eights Format

With the group stage concluded, the top two teams from each of the four groups move into the Super Eights where you have two groups of four teams.  Each team will play three matches and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

New Zealand’ s Road to the Super Eights

New Zealand finished 2nd in their group behind South Africa.

Their 1st match in Group D was against the UAE who set a total of 173.  New Zealand chased it down without losing a wicket with Tim Seifert (89*) and Finn Allen (84*).

In their 2nd match they chased Afghanistan’ s 182/6, scoring 183/5 and winning by 5 wickets with Tim Seifert once again amongst the runs.

New Zealand’s only loss came in their 3rd match when they were beaten by South Africa, losing by 7 wickets.  They batted first posting 175/7, but South Africa chased it down comfortably.

The 4th match against Canada was a must win match to secure qualification and they did this with ease chasing the 173/4 set by Canada.  They reached 176/2 in 15.1 overs, winning by 8 wickets with top batters, Glenn Phillips (76*) and Rachin Ravindra (59*).

Pakistan’ s Road to the Super Eights

Pakistan finished 2nd in their group behind India.

They played the Netherlands in their 1st Group A match, and they chased down 148 runs with 3 balls to spare, winning by 3 wickets.

Their 2nd match was against the United States of America where Pakistan batted first scoring 190/9, Sahibzada Farhan top scored with 73 off 41 balls.  They won the match by 32 runs after restricting the USA to 158/8 in their 20 overs.

They played India in their 3rd match where India batted first scoring 175/7, but Pakistan were all out for 114 in 18 overs, losing by 61 runs.

Their 4th Match saw them posting 199/3 against Namibia who they then bowled out for 97 in 17.3 overs, winning by 102 runs. Player of the Match was Sahibzada Farhan with 100*

New Zealand 1.71

Pakistan 2.15

SUGGESTED BETS:

Pakistan win at 2.15

The betting suggests a close match up but I would have priced this as a choice (even game) and at current prices I believe the value lies with an inconsistent but potentially brilliant Pakistan team against a Black Caps team I don’t feel is firing on all cylinders.

Usman Tariq Top Pakistan Wicket Taker at 5.00

Tariq is Pakistan’s top wicket taker in the tournament taking 8 wickets and having played only 3 matches. I am expecting the wickets to become more favorable to spin as the tournament progresses and the off spinner is bowling superbly.

Saim Ayub Top Match Batsman at 9.00

Ayub has failed to fire in this World Cup but the 23 year old left hander is pure quality and I reckon it is a matter of time before he plays a match altering innings.

Note: All prices are correct at the time of writing but are subject to change.
