The 2025 Ashes series gets underway on Friday the 21st of November, with Australia hosting England in the opening Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth. We take a look at the first Test from a betting angle below.

AUSTRALIA
The Australians have enjoyed a strong year of Test cricket. Their 2025 season began with a dominant tour of Sri Lanka, securing wins by an innings and 242 runs and then by 9 wickets in Galle across January and February.
They did face a setback at Lord’s in June, where South Africa defeated them by 5 wickets in the final of the World Test Championship but the Australians responded superbly during their Caribbean tour a couple of weeks later. They swept the West Indies across three Tests with commanding victories by 159 runs, 133 runs, and 176 runs respectively highlighting their discipline and consistency throughout their squad.
ENGLAND
England come into the Ashes opener with confidence following several strong performances this year. Their 2025 campaign started with a commanding innings and 45-run victory over Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge in May.
They then faced a testing five-match series against India across June and July. England managed a 5-wicket win at Headingley, which was followed by a heavy 336 run defeat at Edgbaston. They were able to rebound from this with a narrow 22 run victory at Lord’s before the fourth match at Old Trafford was drawn. Although the English had the upper hand heading into the last game, India picked up a thrilling 6-run triumph to level the series 2-2.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
The last time these two teams met in the Ashes was in 2023 hosted in England, where the series ended 2-2. Australia claimed tight victories at Edgbaston and Lord’s by two-wickets and 43 runs each, while England fought back with a dramatic three-wicket win at Headingley and a 49-run win at the Oval. Rain forced a draw at Old Trafford although England were dominating the contest.
