1st T20
The series began when the West Indies won the toss and elected to take to the field first, where they put South Africa under a lot of pressure, picking up 3 wickets within the powerplay and restricting the Proteas to a low run rate.
The South African side then remained on shaky ground after the powerplay, and they struggled to hold onto their wickets until the end of the 8th over where they began to build a partnership.
When the first innings came to a close, South Africa had ended on a total of 174/7.
Top batsmen were Tristan Stubbs who scored 76 off 42 deliveries, and Patrick Kruger who picked up 44 runs from 32 balls. On the West Indies end it was Matthew Forde who topped the bowling figures taking 3 wickets for 27 runs in his 4 over spell.
The chase begun with the West Indies firing with the bat in hand, and the South African bowling attack were not able to put them under any real pressure which led to the first wicket only falling by the end of the 8th over, when the West Indies had already scored 84 runs. The hosts continued to look comfortable with the bat and despite losing 2 more wickets they reached the total with 13 balls remaining, winning the match by 7 wickets.
Nicholas Pooran was immense with bat in hand, scoring 65 runs from 26 balls at a strike rate of 250.00. He was well accompanied by the likes of Shai Hope who hit 51 runs off 36 balls. The South African bowler who performed best on the day was Ottneil Baartman who claimed 2 wickets for 30 runs in 4 overs.
