2nd ODI – India vs South Africa Summary
The second ODI in Raipur produced a superb contest as South Africa chased down 359 to win by four wickets with four balls to spare.
India delivered another solid batting performance after being sent in first, closing their innings on 358 for 5. Virat Kohli played fluently throughout reaching a well-timed century to end on 102 runs from 93 deliveries, while Ruturaj Gaikwad was equally impressive striking 105 of his own off 83 balls in a dominant third wicket stand worth 195 runs. KL Rahul added valuable fire power at the back end with a rapid 66 not out from 43 that lifted India beyond the 350 mark.
South Africa’s bowlers endured a tough outing, conceding extras often and struggling for consistency through the middle overs. Marco Jansen picked up two wickets for 63 to top the figures and Lungi Ngidi bowled with control to claim one but the visitors were otherwise challenged across all phases.
In reply, South Africa were led by a magnificent innings from Aiden Markram, who crafted a knock of 110 off 98 balls which anchored the chase. He received strong support from Temba Bavuma, who contributed 46 and Matthew Breetzke who continued his strong form with an additional 68 runs. Dewald Brevis shifted the momentum further with a rapid 54 from only 34 deliveries, keeping the required rate within reach.
Corbin Bosch provided a late surge with 29 from 15 balls, ensuring the Proteas crossed the line. For the hosts, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets each at economy rates of 5.40 and 10.20 respectively, though India struggled to contain the flow of runs throughout the innings.
Markram was named Player of the Match for his decisive hundred and the victory levelled the series at 1-1 heading into Saturday’s final clash.
