India and South Africa head into the second and final Test at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday the 22nd of November with the visitors holding a 1-0 lead after a tense opening clash at Eden Gardens. We look at the second Test from a betting perspective offering up a couple of plays for consideration.
1st Test – India vs South Africa Summary
The opening Test at Eden Gardens produced a contest where momentum shifted constantly across three days. South Africa chose to bat first after winning the toss and began well through Ryan Rickelton, who scored a fluent 23 from 22 balls, and Aiden Markram who added 31 from 48 deliveries to top the figures. However, once that early partnership was broken India seized control. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a superb spell to finish with five wickets for just 27 runs, while Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with two important breakthroughs each to dismiss South Africa for 159.
India’s first innings followed a similar pattern. KL Rahul held the top order together with a patient 39 from 119 balls, supported by Washington Sundar’s steady 29 from 82, but the middle order struggled to build on those starts. Simon Harmer was outstanding throughout claiming four wickets for 30 runs and ensuring India were restricted to 189 all out, giving the hosts only a 30-run advantage heading into the second half of the clash.
South Africa’s second innings revolved around a captain’s knock from Temba Bavuma, who battled his way to 55 from 136 deliveries while wickets continued to fall around him. Ravindra Jadeja led India’s attack with ball in hand taking four wickets for 50 runs, and tight support from Siraj and Kuldeep kept the Proteas to another low total of 153, setting India up for a chase of only 124 to win the match.
India’s second innings began terribly with Marco Jansen removing both openers inside the first few overs before Harmer once again dominated, taking four for 21 in a decisive spell. Washington Sundar offered resistance with 31 from 92 balls, but with little support the hosts were bowled out for 93.
South Africa sealed a 30-run victory to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series and Simon Harmer was named Player of the Match for his eight-wicket haul.

Suggested Bets:
Top India Batter – KL Rahul at 5.00
Rahul looked the most impressive Indian batter in Kolkata, showing the technique required to survive long spells against Harmer and Maharaj. Spin should be a major factor again and he looks good value to deliver the goods.
Top South Africa Bowler – Simon Harmer at 3.25
Harmer’s control and ability to exploit the surface made him unplayable at Eden Gardens. His eight wickets across the match were the clear difference and with conditions expected to once again favour spin, he remains a high-value pick in the bowling markets.
