SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa is currently topping Pool B after two matches of which they won 1 and the other was abandoned without a ball bowled. They currently sit on 3 points on the log with a net run rate of +2.14.
Their most recent clash was scheduled for Tuesday the 25th of February against Australia at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium but unfortunately the match was abandoned due to rain. As a result of this both sides split the 2 points, each getting 1 on the log.
This preview is written ahead of the Australia v Afghanistan clash and if Australia win South Africa are through. If they lose South Africa will have to avoid a thrashing against England and likewise if the points are shared.
In their opening match South Africa took on Afghanistan and started their campaign with a 107-run victory.
ENGLAND
England are sitting in last place in Pool B after losing both of their matches so far. They have 0 points on the log and a net run rate of -0.305.
Their most recent match was played against Afghanistan on Wednesday at Gaddafi Stadium where the game began with Afghanistan winning the toss and electing to bat first.
The English bowlers came out firing initially, taking three important wickets while restricting Afghanistan to a low run rate. Thereafter things opened up and they let Afghanistan stabilise through the formation of partnerships and despite them taking wickets along the way, the bowlers battled to restrict the batsmen and a total of 325/7 was reached.
Top bowling figures were claimed by Jofra Archer who took 3 wickets for 64 runs in his 10 over spell.
The English batsmen then had a shaky start to the innings, losing a couple of crucial wickets and although they managed to hold onto their wickets, every now and then they lost wickets frequently enough to keep them under pressure. This resulted in them being bowled out for 317 with 1 ball remaining, losing the match by 8 runs.
Top batsman was Joe Root who scored 120 runs off 111 balls, scoring 11 fours across his lengthy innings.
Head-to-Head:
The last time these sides met was at the 2023 ICC World Cup when they played at Wankhede Stadium and South Africa put up a dominant performance to win by 229 runs. Prior to this they played a 3-match series in the beginning of 2023 in South Africa where the series resulted in a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Betting and Verdict:
South Africa are favourites at a price of 1.85 with England trading at 2.05.
There is a strong chance this will be a dead rubber but even if so South Africa will be the more focused looking to get top spot and avoid a likely clash with India in the semi-finals. They will also want to carry momentum into the playoffs. I think South Africa win this although it should be a close encounter.
Bet: South Africa to Win at 1.85
Bet: Ryan Rickelton to Score 50+: Yes at 2.95
Rickelton has been on superb form across all formats as of late and he is a batsman who gets his eye in and then scores well when he is comfortable at the crease
Bet: Joe Root Top England Bat at 3.30
Root has carried on where he left off in the SA20 and he has been in great form. England use him to anchor the innings and I am expecting another big score from him.
