AFGHANISTAN
Afghanistan’s most recent action took place in December across a three-leg series with Zimbabwe in Harare. The first match resulted in a no contest and the last two matches were won by Afghanistan who took a 2-0 series victory. A notable match was the 2nd ODI which concluded in a 232-run win for Afghanistan.
Prior to this they took on Bangladesh in a three-match series played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in November. The first match led to a 92-run win for the Afghans, however Bangladesh levelled the series with a 68-run victory. The final match saw Afghanistan claim a comfortable 5-wicket triumph to take the series 2-1.
SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa have not been on solid form in terms of the one-day international format as of late and they took on Ireland in a three-match series that took place in October on neutral ground (Sheikh Zayed Stadium). This series saw South Africa win 2-1 after taking the first two matches and losing the third.
The Proteas then went head-to-head with Pakistan over three legs in South Africa, the matches were played at various stadiums throughout December. South Africa were in poor form throughout this series losing every game.
Their most recent ODI action has been in the Tri-Nations where they played New Zealand and Pakistan just over a week ago and lost by 6-wickets in both matches.
Head-to-Head:
The most recent meeting between these two teams was at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in September last year where Afghanistan started the series off strong with a 6-wicket win. They then held their form into the next fixture winning it by 177 runs. The Proteas found some stability in the third match, but by then it was too late and despite a 7-wicket victory they lost the series 2-1.

Betting and Verdict:
South Africa are priced as favourites at 1.42 with Afghanistan on offer at 2.90.
The Proteas were not at full strength in their recent matches against Pakistan and New Zealand and I am expecting them to be far better and to win this game comfortably. Their current price is not within my range though and I will look at other options including a tournament long play.
Bet: Top South African Bowler (Tournament) – Keshav Maharaj at 4.00
He should get plenty of overs and can benefit from the fact that the opposition will be trying to get after him.
Bet: Top match batter Markram at 5.80
Markram was in good touch in the recent SA20 series and I am backing him to deliver an innings worthy of his great talent.
