England and South Africa continue their three-match T20 series on Friday the 12th of September at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester. After a heavily rain impacted opener in Cardiff produced a dramatic finish, both sides will be eager to make a stronger statement in what will hopefully be more settled conditions. We take a look at the second game from a betting perspective below.
England vs South Africa – 1st T20 summary
The series opener at Sophia Gardens was disrupted by rain and produced a shortened, high intensity contest. South Africa managed to bat for 7.5 overs before the weather intervened, reaching a total of 97/5 thanks to a fast start from Aiden Markram who struck 28 from 14 deliveries and Dewald Brevis who picked up 23 from 10, followed by Donovan Ferreira’s explosive 25 not out off 11 balls. England’s bowlers struggled to contain the Proteas’ aggression, though Luke Wood claimed figures of 22/2 in his 2 overs and an additional three bowlers from the English attack, namely Overton, Rashid and Curran, took one wicket apiece.
When play resumed, England’s chase was revised under the DLS method to a target of 69 from just 5 overs which was always going to be a tough test. Jos Buttler gave them a chance with a blistering 25 off 11 balls, but regular wickets derailed the innings. Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch shared four wickets between them despite going for 18 and 20 runs respectively in their 2 overs, while Kagiso Rabada removed Phil Salt with the first ball of the innings. England closed on a hard fought 54/5, falling 14 runs short as South Africa claimed a 1–0 series lead.
Donovan Ferreira was awarded Player of the Match, with Jansen also standing out for his influence with the ball.

SUGGESTED BETS
Top England Batter – Jos Buttler at 3.00
Buttler’s 25 from 11 balls in Cardiff showed his ability to score rapidly under pressure. If England are to level the series, he remains the most likely candidate to anchor and accelerate their innings, making him my pick once again.
Top South Africa Bowler – Corbin Bosch at 4.45
Bosch’s two wickets in the first match swung momentum firmly in South Africa’s favour, and his bounce and control make him a dangerous weapon in Manchester conditions. I think he’s a strong pick to top the Proteas bowling charts this time around due to coming extremely close in their first meeting.
