Stage 8 of Vuelta a España starts in Dénia and ends 165km later in Xorret de Cati and there will be nowhere to hide on what looks a brutal profile.
STAGE 7 WRAP
Stage 7 looked like a predictable sprint finish and it wasn’t a great watch with very little action up until the final kilometres when there were unfortunately a few crashes. Kaden Groves was the short priced favourite to win his 3rd stage in a row but he found himself out of position and veteran and rank outsider Geoffrey Soupe delivered a long sprint to grab a win not even his close family could of seen coming. Groves got going too late and could only finish 5th.
JERSEY UPDATE
There were no significant changes to any of the classifications and Jonas Vingegaard remains an 1/1 favourite ahead of his teammate Primoz Roglic at 2/1. Martinez remains in the leaders Red Jersey.
Groves is well clear in the Green Jersey race and is a 1/3 shot while Vingegaard is also the market leader for the King of the Mountains where he is trading at 7/2.
Jumbo-Visma are 1/1 to win the team competition.

PREDICTION
This is going to be a brute of a stage. I expect the real action to kick off on the opening climb and it is going to be very tough for any team to control who goes in the break. FDJ the team of the Red Jersey will try and keep the break small and non-threatening but it is almost a given that the break will feature some Red jersey threats both in the short and possibly the long term.
The break has a strong start in this stage however I think we could have a finish contested by the contenders for Red. FDJ should keep the break within sight and at some point I think Jumbo-Visma will start riding to set up a possible stage win but also to put the likes of Evenepoel and Ayuso under pressure.
Roglic is the obvious favourite on a steep climb like this and he would be fancied to beat any of the other contenders in a reduced sprint and can also win solo.
