Stage 4 of the Tour de France starts in Dax on Tuesday and ends 181.8 kms later in Nogaro in what promises to be another stage for the sprinters.
STAGE 3 WRAP UP
Stage 3 always looked likely to be a sprinters stage, but I was expecting some harder racing than we got and after a couple of brutal days racing the Peloton clearly decided to take the day off. In the end we were treated to a sprint finish where Jasper Philipsen survived a race review to get the win ahead of Phil Bauhaus and Caleb Ewan. Wout Van Aert had his run balked by Philipsen and finished 5th.
JERSEY UPDATE
There is no change to the General Classification and Pogacar remains a 9/10 favourite with Vingegaard at 23/20.

There is a big movement in the Green Jersey market where Philipsen has shortened from even money to 4/7 after his sprint victory.
The King of the Mountains and Team Classifications are largely unchanged with Ineos 27/20 for the team classification and Pogacar 7/2 to win the King of the Mountains.

THE ROUTE
Tuesday’s route is the flattest to date with just a Category 4 climb peaking with 27 kilometres to go. It is just 2 kilometres at 3.5% and shouldn’t give the sprinter teams any problems. There is an intermediate sprint half-way through the stage and I expect we will see a usual pattern with two to three riders getting away early and being allowed to get 3 or 4 minutes as the big sprinters teams each send a man to the front to keep them in check.
The speed will ramp up in the final kilometres and the sprint actually takes place on a race track so there are a number of sweeping bends which may make positioning difficult, but on the positive side the roads are wide so hopefully we have an incident free finish.
VERDICT
Given the nature of his victory in Stage 3 coupled with the Money Back for 2nd place promo I am pointing quite confidently to Jasper Philipsen to get the win.
