Stage 18 of Tour de France 2022 takes place on Thursday 21st July and it’s the final day in high mountains with two HC climbs on the route
STAGE 17 UPDATE
Cycling fans were treated to an incredible stage with a massive battle to join the break only for the break to be never than more than 2 minutes. Pogacar put his much reduced team on the front and in the end he managed to finish the job and win the stage ahead of Vingegaard who looked relatively untroubled despite been put under a lot of pressure. McNulty, Pogacar’s teammate, rode a brilliant race to finish 3rd and Geraint Thomas finished 4th securing his podium spot.
JERSEY UPDATE
Vingegaard now leads Pogacar by 2 minutes and 18 seconds with Thomas a further 2 minutes and 38 seconds back. South African, Louis Meintjes held on to his Top 10 place and currently sits 7th, 9 minutes and 24 seconds off the pace.

STAGE 18 ROUTE AND PREDICTIONS
We are in for another short stage at a 143.2 Kilometres and once again the stage start is fairly easy although there is enough climbing early on to suggest the break could go early. The 2nd half of the stage is brutal with 3 massive climbs. Two HC climbs and a Cat 1 sandwiched in between with very little valley road in between should ensure plenty of action. The final climb averages 7.8% and after a tough few days in the Pyrenees the riders will be out on their feet by the time they reach this point.
Pogacar and his UAE team have nothing to lose and while I do expect a strong break to go away I do think they are going to push hard early as they did in stage 17 and this will probably see the break being brought back.
