Stage 2 of the Tour de France starts in Vitoria-Gasteiz and ends 208.9km later in Saint Sebastion. It is another beautifully designed stage which although leaning more towards sprinters than stage 1 could once again throw up a surprise result.
STAGE 1 WRAP UP
What a stage! Adam Yates and his twin brother Simon broke away on the final climb and worked together until Adam proved too strong and took the jersey for team UAE. Pogacar finished 3rd picking up a 4 second time bonus.
The difficulty of that final “wall” of a climb meant that only Van Aert made it over of the quicker men but with the Yates brothers clear this turned out to be a stage for the poor climbers.
Unfortunately we have lost 2 potentially big players in Mas and Carapaz due to an accident.
JERSEY UPDATE
Vingegaard and Pogacar remained locked together at 11/10 in the outright betting while Yates is in to 14/1 from 50/1.
Jumbo lead the team classification but Ineos are the 2/1 favourites and there has been virtually no change in the Green Jersey or Polka Dot betting.

THE ROUTE
There is a reasonably flat start and I expect a fairly small breakaway to go clear early. There are 5 climbs along the way but these are not that length or steep but should make for very exciting racing. I expect the break to be pulled back in and the key point will be the Category 2 Jaizkibel which is 8.1km at an average of 5.3% and from the top there are only 16km to go 50% of which are downhill.
VERDICT
This is an open stage and that final climb is going to be key. Van Aert showed yesterday he is the best climber amongst the sprinters and I am backing him to win this one with the insurance of the money back for 2nd in the promo on the banner above.
Suggested Bet: Van Aert win at 3/1
