The Proteas will be hoping the rain stays away when they take on Bangladesh in Sydney in a Group 2, T20 Super 12 fixture on Thursday. We take a look at the game from a betting angle.
SOUTH AFRICA
The Proteas terrible run with weather in the World Cup Cricket Tournaments continued when their opening game against Zimbabwe was rained out. The match was originally shortened to 9 overs and Zimbabwe scored 79 for 5 with a quick fire 35 from Madhevere giving them something to bowl at. Ngidi was the pick of the South African bowlers with 2 for 20 in his 2 overs.
The match was then reduced by a further 2 overs and in the end South Africa fell agonisingly short scoring 51 without loss off 3 overs when the covers came on for the final time. Quinton de Kock scored 47 off 18 balls, but sadly there just wasn’t enough time for the Proteas to finish the job. It means there is additional pressure on all their matches and a loss against a side like Bangladesh cannot be contemplated.
BANGLADESH
Bangladesh got their campaign off to a winning start when they beat the Netherlands by 9 runs. The Netherlands had won the toss and sent them in to bat and Bangladesh battled their way to a 144 for 8 in their 20 overs. Afif Hossain with 38 at a strike rate of 140 was their top batsman.
The bowlers quickly got in amongst the Netherlands top order and from there always in control eventually bowled the Netherlands out for 135 in 20 overs. Taskin Ahmed did most of the damage with the ball, 4 for 25 off his 4 overs.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
The Proteas have an excellent head-to-head record against Bangladesh in T20 cricket winning all 7 of their matches. I am going to steer clear of a match result bet as South Africa are very short price favourites and I actually think that Bangladesh are probably the value at current prices. I don’t think this is going to be a walk over for the Proteas.

South Africa 1/5
Bangladesh 15/4
Suggested Bet: Player to hit the most 6’s, de Kock at 9/2
De Kock has been battling with his game for quite a while, but he looked in excellent form against Zimbabwe and there aren’t many in this match that can clear the rope like he does.
