New Zealand take on Afghanistan in a Group 1, T20 Super 12 Fixture on Wednesday night in Melbourne. We take a look at the game from a betting angle.
NEW ZEALAND
New Zealand got off to the perfect start with a convincing 89 run victory over Australia. Australia won the toss and sent New Zealand into bat. They got off to an absolute flyer with Finn Allen getting 42 off just 16 balls. The man who anchored the innings (but if you can use the word anchor, at a strike rate of 158) was Conway with his man of the match performance of 92 not out and the Black caps finished on 200 for 3.
Australia never got into the chase and were bowled out for 111, Santner and Southee both getting 3 wickets, Southee’s figures reading 2.1 overs 3 for 6.
AFGHANISTAN
Afghanistan were given a harsh introduction to the Super 12 when they were sent into bat by England and bowled out for 112 just shy of their 20 overs. There was some resistance at the top of the order with number 3, Zadran scoring 32 at a run a ball and Ghani getting 30 runs also at a strike rate of 100.
The rest of the batting line-up crumbled though although they can take heart from the decent bowling performance which meant England only got the runs in the 19th over with 5 wickets in hand. The wickets were spread amongst the team, but in terms of run rate Rashid Khan was the most impressive with 1 wicket for 17 runs in his 4 overs.

New Zealand 1/5
Afghanistan 15/4
Suggested Bet: New Zealand Top Bowler, Trent Boult at 22/10
I was impressed with all of the New Zealand attack, but I felt that Boult was unlucky not to get more wickets and I really think the Afghanistan top order are going to have their hands full with him steaming in at them.
Suggested Bet: New Zealand Top Batter, Finn Allen at 3/1
If New Zealand field first there will be every chance that they will be chasing a low total and at the speed Finn bats he could wrap this market up in a few overs.
Suggested Bet: Afghanistan First Dismissal, Boult at 33/10
Yes, I am thinking of Boult here with one of his in-swinging Yorkers taking out the Afghanistan openers stumps.
