The Italian Grand Prix takes place at the Monza Circuit this Sunday and all eyes will be on Max Verstappen as he attempts to set a record of 10 consecutive Formula 1 wins.
CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
Verstappen was as short as 1/4 to equal Vettel’s record of 9 wins in a row and the Dutch Grand Prix proved to be his toughest race in a while with heavy rainfall making things more complicated. In the end though he took pole position and the win beating Fernando Alonso by just under 4 seconds with Pierre Gasly completing the podium.
Verstappen now has a 138 point lead over his closest rival, Perez who finished 4th in the Netherlands with Alonso a further 33 points back in 3rd.
Bookmakers are not even pricing up the winner in the Driver’s Championship market, but there is a “Winner without Verstappen” market where Perez is now a 1/4 favourite ahead of Hamilton at 7/2.

ITALIAN GRAND PRIX
Charles Leclerc qualified in pole position in last year’s Italian Grand Prix, but it was Max Verstappen who took the victory ahead of Leclerc with George Russell completing the podium. Fastest lap went to Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez.
That was Verstappen’s first win in the Italian Grand Prix and broke a run of two surprise winners in Ricciardo in 2021 and Gasly in 2020. Leclerc won here in 2019 and Hamilton has won 5 times here with the last win coming in 2018.

VERDICT
World Sports Betting are offering a money back for 2nd place on the Italian Grand Prix meaning if you back a rider and he finishes 2nd, you will get your stake back in free bets. The question here though is whether it is worth betting on Max Verstappen because the 1/4 that he wins the race, while justified, is just too short for my pocket even with that 2nd place insurance.

Suggested Bet: Lance Stroll Points finish at 11/10
Stroll had engine failure in last year’s Italian Grand Prix so he didn’t finish, but he has finished in the points in 5 of his last 7 races including 2 of his last 3. At the Dutch GP he just missed out with an 11th place finish so I am happy to take anything above even money about his chances of a top 10 finish.
Suggested Bet: Fastest Qualifier, Fastest Lap and Win Race, Max Verstappen at 16/10
I can see Verstappen been beaten this season, but I don’t think it is going to happen with the record on the line and I am expecting him to go hard and leave nothing to chance. He is 9/20 to finish Pole and Win the race so I am throwing in the Fastest Lap which is admittedly a gamble as if he gets out in front early and builds a lead it will really be about staying out of trouble to the finish.
Enjoy the race and remember that there will be in-running betting options throughout.
