The semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday and we take a look at both games from a betting angle.
Let’s start with a look at the Outright Betting where Spain are currently priced as 18/10 favourites ahead of England 2/1. Hosts Australia are 4/1 and Sweden are the outsiders of the quartet at 5/1. There is also betting on the Top Goal Scorer where Hinata Miyazawa (5 goals but can’t add to her tally) is the 11/20 favourite.

TUESDAY
SPAIN V SWEDEN
Spain finished 2nd in their group behind Japan with 2 comfortable victories, but a shock 4-0 loss to the Japanese. They put that behind them in the Round of 16 where they beat Switzerland 5-1 and they then required extra time to beat the Netherlands in their quarter-final. Spain took the lead by a penalty kick in the 81st minute only for the Netherlands to equalise in extra time before Spain scored the winner in the 111th minute.
Sweden topped their group ahead of South Africa with a 100% record scoring 9 goals and conceding only 1 in the group stages. They were up against pre-tournament favourites, the USA in the Round of 16 and got the win on penalties after the sides had finished goalless after 120 minutes. They were then underdogs against Japan in their quarter-final starting at around the 9/4 mark, but they scored in the 32nd and 51st minutes for a 2-0 lead only for Japan to make it interesting with an 87th minute goal. In the end though Sweden hung on for a 2-1 victory.
These sides played in a friendly International in 2022 with the game finishing 1-1.

I am expecting a tight match here and I think that Sweden can keep this talented Spanish attack quiet and I am going to bet on the 90 minutes draw.

WEDNESDAY
AUSTRALIA V ENGLAND
Australia topped their group finishing 1 point ahead of Nigeria having won 2 and lost 1 match. That loss came against Nigeria who beat them 3-2. The hosts then met Denmark in the Round of 16 winning 2-0 and they were underdogs against France in the quarter-finals, but after the match finished 0-0 after extra time, they won on penalties to book their spot in the last 4.
England won all 3 of their group matches to top their log ahead of Denmark who they beat 1-0. They faced Nigeria in the round of 16 with no goals scored over 120 minutes before England won on penalties and in their quarter-final they justified 4/10 favouritism to beat Colombia 2-1. Colombia actually took the lead at the end of the first-half only for England to score deep into first-half injury time just to make it 1-1 before England grabbed the winner in the 63rd minute.
These sides met in a friendly International match in April with Australia winning 2-0 and that was their first meeting in 5 years.

I don’t think there is going to be much between these sides and I have to say that as in the first game the draw stands out here for value. I expect it to be low scoring, but the bookies are on to us and under 2.5 goals is trading at 5/10. I am also going to throw a few rand at a goalless draw after 90 minutes at 11/2.
