South Africa will be looking to salvage some pride when they take on Australia in the 3rd Test in Sydney on Wednesday. We take a look at this game from a betting angle.
Australia wrapped up the series 2-0 with emphatic victories in the first two Tests. In Brisbane they won by 6 wickets after South Africa were bowled out for 152 and 99 with Australia getting 218 and 35 for 4.
In Melbourne in the second Test, Australia won the toss and decided to test South Africa’s shaky batting line-up early and despite a good middle order partnership between Verreynne and Jansen, both who got 50’s, the Proteas were bundled out for 189. Green took 5 for 27 to be destroyer in chief.
Australia then put the Proteas bowlers to the sword, David Warner leading the charge with 200 runs as they reached 575 for 8. Nortje was the pick of the South African bowlers with 3 for 92 in his 25 overs in which time he certainly bowled at a great pace. Australia then bowled South Africa out for 204 with only Temba Bavuma getting amongst the run scoring with 65 and in the second innings the Australian bowlers spread the wickets out between them.

Australia 37/100
Draw 7/2
South Africa 15/2
It is hard to see past an Australian victory here and they although from a series perspective this is a dead rubber they do have an incentive in that they can secure a place in the final of the World Test Championship in June with a victory. I am going to focus on some of the Exotics available rather than the match betting.
Suggested Bet: First Innings, Top Australian Bowler, Scott Boland at 95/40
Boland has impressed me so far and I think he bowls a good line and length against the South Africa batsmen who seem to struggle to concentrate for long periods. Boland only got 1 wicket in South Africa’s first innings in Melbourne and he popped up with 2 more in the second and with a bit more luck hopefully he can deliver us the goods in the first innings in Sydney.
Suggested Bet: South Africa’s First Innings Top Batsman, Heinrich Klaasen at 7/2
Klaasen hasn’t played in either of the first two Tests and there surely must be changes rung by the Proteas selectors and Klaasen is well capable of stepping up to the plate and showing selectors that they were wrong not to include him in either of the first two Tests.
Remember there will be in-running betting throughout this match so if you are in South Africa and you are the type who wakes up early to watch this game or certainly can’t sleep, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to get involved.
