The 2025 Tour de France begins on Saturday, 5 July, and once again the world’s best cyclists will battle across 21 stages for supremacy in one of the toughest sporting events on the calendar. While the yellow jersey is the headline act, there are several other prestigious classifications to follow and of course to bet on.
Below, we break down how each works and who the bookmakers have installed as favourites in each category and we also offer up a selection for your consideration.
We will also be doing daily stage previews with betting tips which will be up on the morning of the stage.
General Classification (Yellow Jersey – Maillot Jaune)
This is the race for the overall winner of the Tour de France. The yellow jersey is awarded to the rider with the lowest cumulative time across all stages. Bonus seconds are awarded on most road stages (10, 6, and 4 seconds for the top three finishers), which can be crucial in a tight GC battle.
- Awarded to: Rider with the lowest total time
- Favours: All-rounders and climbers
- Time bonuses: On stage finishes and intermediate sprints

Tadej Pogacar – 1.35
Jonas Vingegaard – 3.50
Remco Evenepoel – 10.00
Joao Almeida – 17.00
Primoz Roglic – 26.00
Florian Lipowitz – 34.00
Matteo Jorgenson – 51.00
Mattias Skjelmose – 81.00
This certainly looks a 2 horse race and based on the build up Pogacar is a worthy favourite. There are too many things that can go wrong over a 3 week race to take the current price though.
I fancy Roglic to go well and will take a straight forecast play that Pogacar wins and Roglic finishes 2nd.
Bet: Straight Forecast 1st Pogacar, 2nd Roglic at 21.00
Points Classification (Green Jersey – Maillot Vert)
The green jersey rewards the most consistent sprinter. Riders earn points at designated intermediate sprints and stage finishes, with flat stages offering the most points. While pure sprinters tend to dominate this classification, strong all-rounders can also challenge with consistent top finishes or by taking points out on the route.
- Awarded to: Rider with the most sprint points
- Favours: Sprinters and strong finishers
- Points: Vary by stage type (flat stages offer the most)
Points Classification Betting
Jonathan Milan – 3.20
Jasper Philipsen – 4.00
Wout Van Aert – 6.00
Mathieu Van Der Poel – 6.50
Tim Merlier – 7.50
Tadej Pogacar – 8.00
Biniam Girmay – 11.00
Van Aert is here for Vingegaard as well as going for stage wins so he is unlikely to target the green jersey but could find himself in contention and if things are not going well for Vingegaard then tactics could change.
He is not quite as quick as Merlier and Milan but can score points on stages when they cannot.
Bet: Wout Van Aert win at 6.00

King of the Mountains (Polka Dot Jersey – Maillot à Pois Rouges)
Awarded to the best climber in the race, the polka dot jersey goes to the rider who collects the most points on categorised climbs. These range from Category 4 (easiest) to HC (Hors Catégorie – the hardest).
- Awarded to: Rider with the most mountain points
- Favours: Climbers and breakaway specialists, GC contenders can win it by default
- Climb categories: HC, 1, 2, 3, 4
King of the Mountains Betting
Tadej Pogacar – 3.20
Jonas Vingegaard – 7.00
Lenny Martinez – 12.00
Michael Storer – 19.00
Felix Gall – 21.00
Ben Healy – 26.00
Alex Baudin – 26.00
Julian Alaphilippe – 29.00
Tobias Halland Johannessen – 29.00
Oscar Onley – 29.00
Although Pogacar won’t be targeting this jersey he should be in contention given the mountain top finishes where historically his team has chased down the break.
Looking at this years route I think Pogacar is a decent bet at 3.20.
Bet: Pogacar win at 3.20
Young Rider Classification (White Jersey – Maillot Blanc)
Open to riders aged 25 and under on 1 January 2025, the white jersey is awarded to the best-placed young rider in the general classification. It’s often a preview of future GC stars and has been previously won by the likes of Pogacar and Egan Bernal.
- Awarded to: Best U25 rider by overall time
- Favours: Young GC hopefuls and future stars
Young Rider Classification Betting
Remco Evenepoel – 1.70
Florian Lipowitz – 3.20
Carlos Rodriguez – 8.00
Mattias Skjelmose – 13.00
I think it is worth taking on Evenepoel here and my fancy is Skjelmose at a juicy price.
Team Classification
This classification is based on the total time of the top three riders on each team for every stage. The leading team wears yellow race numbers, and the prize reflects strength in depth.
- Awarded to: Team with lowest aggregate time
- Favours: Balanced teams with multiple strong riders. There can be big swings in the final week when breakaways are more likely to prevail.
Team Classification Betting
Team Visma–Lease a Bike – 2.20
UAE Team Emirates – 2.20
INEOS Grenadiers – 10.00
Movistar Team – 11.00
It is no surprise to see UAE and Visma joint favourites due to their depth in the mountains abut if anyone can challenge them it could be the disruptive Ineos.
Bet: Ineos win at 10.00
