OLYMPIC RUGBY SEVENS
Although the Olympics officially gets underway on the 26th of July the Mens Rugby Sevens is one of those events which gets going early with a Wednesday start.
South Africa had to come through qualification to book their spot after not ranking high enough in the regular season and then losing to Kenya in the African Sevens Final.
They are well down the betting boards at 13/1 to win Gold and they are in what looks a very tough Pool A where New Zealand are 4/11 favourites and Ireland are 4/1 with South Africa 5/1 to win the pool and Japan the rank outsiders at 150/1.
You can get 12/5 on South Africa medalling.
Their opening game is against Ireland on Wednesday where they are 39/20 underdogs.
South Africa are a proud Sevens Nation that are currently in a dip, but showing signs of climbing out of it and they may be worth a bet at current odds.

The South African Ladies will also be taking part, but they are 200/1 and bottom of the betting boards where New Zealand are the 9/2 favourites.

ATHLETICS
Akani Simbine is 25/1 to win the 100 metres and although he is well down the betting boards, he is not without a chance given recent form and a recent Diamond League meeting he was second behind Noah Lyles and edged out the promising Letsile Tebogo from Botswana. Tebogo is 14/1 to win Gold.
South Africans will also fancy their chances of a podium in the 4 x 100 metres Mens Relay where they are priced at 100/1 for victory as well as the 4 x 400 metres Mens Relay where betting is still to be released.

GOLF
Ashleigh Buhai is a massive 80/1 to win the Womens Golf and that reflects the fact that she is not in the greatest of form. She does have experience though and has won big events including the British Open in 2022 and can hopefully turn in a big performance for her country.

The Mens Golf gets going on the 4th of August, Scottie Scheffler is at the top of the betting boards at 4/1. South Africans, Bezuidenhout and van Rooyen are both 80/1 shots.

SWIMMING
Tatjana Smith is South Africa’s best Medal hope in the pool and at the Tokyo Olympics she secured two medals for South Africa. She showed she is in good form with a quick time in the National Championships and she is likely to be one of the favourites to win the 200m breaststroke.
I have not seen any betting on the swimming, but keep an eye on the Olympics Landing page.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
Alan Hatherley rides his third Olympics for South Africa having finished 8th in Tokyo 3 years ago. He is having an excellent season and recently won his first World Cup race and is certainly one of South Africa’s strongest Medal prospects.
Keep an eye on the on the Olympics Landing page and also the Cycling Page for Mountain Bike Betting.
This looks like being a tough Olympics for Team SA, but hopefully they can bring back two or 3 medals.
In my opinion our best chances are Hatherley in the Men’s Mountain Bike and Smith in the 200m Women’s breaststroke
