MANCHESTER CITY vs BRIGHTON
Manchester City made an emphatic start to their Carabao Cup campaign, sweeping Norwich aside 5-0 at home in the third round. The hosts combined a convincing attacking performance with a clean sheet to comfortably secure their place in the last 16.
Another home draw gives City the opportunity to build on that result as they pursue a quarter-final berth.
Brighton earned their place in the fourth round with an impressive 3-2 victory away to Manchester United. The side came through a demanding opening assignment, showing enough quality in attack to overcome their hosts despite conceding twice.
They now return to Manchester for another challenging away fixture. Having already eliminated United, Brighton have demonstrated their ability to threaten strong opposition on the road and will hope to produce another memorable cup result.
Head-to-Head:
Brighton are unbeaten in the last four meetings, recording two home victories and two away draws against Manchester City.
The most recent encounter finished 1-1 at the Etihad in January, following Brighton’s 2-1 home success in August last year. City’s previous home meeting with Brighton ended 2-2 in March 2025.

Manchester City 1.67
Draw 4.25
Brighton 4.50
Verdict:
Brighton’s recent record in this fixture suggests City could face a competitive evening. The visitors have avoided defeat on their last two trips to the Etihad, while their victory against Manchester United provides further evidence that they can make an impact away from home.
City nevertheless delivered the more controlled performance in the previous round. Their five unanswered goals against Norwich showed how quickly they can take a contest away from their opponents and another home assignment strengthens their position.
Brighton should create problems, particularly if they reproduce the attacking threat shown at Old Trafford. However, conceding twice in that match leaves room for City to exploit and I am backing the hosts to secure their quarter-final spot with both sides finding the back of the net.

LIVERPOOL vs CHELSEA
Liverpool progressed to this point in the competition with a convincing 3-1 home victory over Tottenham in September.
They remain at Anfield for this meeting with Chelsea, giving them another opportunity to use familiar surroundings to their advantage. Their opening result established a solid platform, although the visitors arrive having already scored freely in this competition.
Chelsea have registered eight goals across their two Carabao Cup appearances this season. They began with a straightforward 2-0 home victory against Luton before becoming involved in a much more open contest against Leeds.
That third round encounter produced nine goals, with Chelsea emerging as 6-3 winners at home. Their finishing proved decisive but conceding three times also highlighted an area they will need to improve as they face their first away tie of the campaign.
Head-to-Head:
The latest meeting ended 1-1 at Anfield in May after Chelsea had won the previous two encounters at Stamford Bridge by 2-1 and 3-1 scorelines.
Liverpool won their two home meetings before that draw, beating Chelsea 2-1 in October 2024 and 4-1 in January of the same year.

Liverpool 2.20
Draw 3.85
Chelsea 2.90
Verdict:
Chelsea’s scoring record makes them dangerous opponents with eight goals across the opening two rounds demonstrating their ability to punish defensive mistakes. However, their victory over Leeds also showed that they can give opponents opportunities to stay in the contest.
Liverpool should take confidence from their performance against Tottenham, having already negotiated a difficult home tie with a two goal winning margin. Their recent Anfield results against Chelsea provide additional encouragement, with two victories and a draw from the last three meetings there.
Both sides have shown enough attacking quality to make this an entertaining encounter. Chelsea carry a considerable threat but Liverpool’s home advantage and more balanced performance in the previous round lead me towards a narrow victory for the Reds.
