F1 heads to Montreal this weekend for the Canadian Grand Prix, with the championship picture really starting to take shape after Kimi Antonelli’s commanding win at the Miami International Autodrome. Mercedes have continued to stretch their advantage at the top of both championships, but with McLaren firmly back in the podium conversation and Ferrari still hovering, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has plenty of stories to tell this weekend. We preview the race and lay down a couple of suggested bets.
DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
Kimi Antonelli leads the Drivers’ Championship on 100 points after extending his cushion with another win in Miami, with teammate George Russell second on 80. Charles Leclerc is the highest-placed non-Mercedes driver, sitting third on 59 for Ferrari. Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton are locked together on 51 points apiece, with Norris coming off the back of an impressive second place in Miami. Oscar Piastri rounds out the top six on 43 after his Miami podium gave his title hopes a much-needed boost.
Antonelli is the favourite for the title at 2.20, with Russell tucked in behind him at 3.20. Norris has been cut to 4.30 after his strong Miami showing, while Piastri (15.00), Verstappen (17.00) and Leclerc (17.00) are all available at longer prices. Hamilton is the rank outsider of the leading group at 67.00.

CONSTRUCTORS CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
Mercedes continue to dominate the Constructors’ Championship on 180 points, with their advantage only growing race by race. Ferrari sit second on 110, but McLaren are closing fast on 94 and look the most likely team to give the Silver Arrows a fight over the back half of the season. Red Bull Racing are languishing in fourth on just 30 points, an unfamiliar position for a team that has set the benchmark in recent years.
Mercedes are heavy favourites at 1.28 to seal the constructors’ title, with McLaren at 4.00, Ferrari out at 11.00 and Red Bull at 51.00.
Last Race – Miami GP 2026
The Miami Grand Prix saw Kimi Antonelli take another commanding victory to stretch his championship lead, with Lando Norris producing an excellent drive to finish second for McLaren. Teammate Oscar Piastri claimed the final podium spot in third, while George Russell could only manage fourth from the second Mercedes. Max Verstappen was fifth for Red Bull and Lewis Hamilton sixth for Ferrari to round out the top six.
Canadian GP 2025
Last year’s Canadian Grand Prix was a George Russell masterclass. The Brit took a controlled victory at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with Max Verstappen second for Red Bull and Kimi Antonelli a superb third in what was one of his standout drives as a rookie. Oscar Piastri was fourth for McLaren, Charles Leclerc fifth for Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton sixth to round out the top half-dozen.
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a 4.361-kilometre semi-permanent layout built around Île Notre-Dame in Montreal. It features 14 turns and a 70-lap race, blending long flat-out straights with tight chicanes and heavy braking zones that put a serious load on engines and brakes alike. The famous “Wall of Champions” at the final corner has caught out some of the very best over the years, with one small lapse in concentration enough to end a weekend. Power, traction out of slow corners and brake management are all critical, and with multiple DRS zones along the long back straight, overtaking is genuinely on the cards.

Betting and Verdict:
George Russell has been one of the form drivers of the season so far, sitting second in the Drivers’ Championship on 80 points. He kicked off the campaign with a win in Australia and has finished inside the top four in every race since, including a fourth-place finish in Miami. Russell also won this very race last year, converting his pace into a controlled victory in Montreal. With Antonelli the slight favourite but Russell sitting at a generous 3.20, this looks like a price worth taking on a driver who has proven he knows how to win at this circuit.

Oscar Piastri put together a solid race in Miami, picking up a podium finish in third behind the two championship leaders. He hasn’t had the easiest start to the season, but the McLaren clearly came back from the cancelled races in much better shape, and Piastri now looks ready to mount a proper run at the front. He also finished fourth at last year’s Canadian GP, so he arrives with recent course form to lean on as well. At 2.30 for a Top 3 finish, this looks like solid value on a driver who is trending in the right direction.
