We take a look at three English Premier League fixtures taking place on Sunday the 17th of May and suggest a bet in each encounter.

Let’s begin with a look at the Outright Betting Markets where Arsenal remain favourites at 1.20, with Manchester City who trail them by 2 points with 2 games remaining at 4.50 trailing them.

Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest

Manchester United sit in 3rd place on the table with 65 points, 6 points clear of Liverpool who also have 2 games left to play. Across their campaign they have found the net 63 times and allowed 48 goals against them.

They played out a goalless draw away to Sunderland in their latest fixture after edging Liverpool 3-2 at Old Trafford. Before that they defeated Brentford 2-1 and secured a 1-0 victory away to Chelsea.

Nottingham Forest sit 16th on the standings with 43 points and have secured their spot in the EPL for next season, following an excellent run of form. The side have been unbeaten in their last eight league games, picking up 4 wins and settling for 4 draws.

They held Newcastle to a 1-1 draw last time they played after an impressive 3-1 away triumph over Chelsea. Prior to that they demolished Sunderland 5-0 and comfortably beat Burnley 4-1 at home.

Head-to-Head

The last meeting between the sides took place in November 2025 where they played to a 2-2 draw on Nottingham turf while the previous season Nottingham won both fixtures with 3-2 and 1-0 scorelines.

Manchester United 1.63
Draw 4.50
Nottingham Forest 5.00

Verdict

Manchester United have been performing well in recent weeks and continue to create plenty of chances going forward. Nottingham Forest are dangerous on the counterattack though and arrive with momentum of their own which should make this an open contest.

Everton vs Sunderland

Everton have put together 49 points from 36 fixtures and have endured an inconsistent but competitive season overall leaving them in 10th position. They shared a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in their latest action after an exciting 3-3 home stalemate against Manchester City, where they came from behind to lead 3-1.

Before that they suffered narrow defeats to West Ham and Liverpool and the side holds an even goal difference heading into the second last round.

Sunderland are in 12th spot on the table on 48 points and remain just one point behind Everton heading into this fixture. Their return to the Premier League has been respectable with twelve wins, twelve draws and twelve defeats so far this season.

They earned a 0-0 draw against Manchester United last weekend after another 1-1 result away to Wolves. However, they were heavily beaten 5-0 by Nottingham Forest prior to that and lost 4-3 in a thriller against Aston Villa.

Head-to-Head

Sunderland claimed a 2-1 victory in the FA Cup in January while before that the sides met earlier this season where the match concluded in a 1-1 stalemate.

Everton 1.87
Draw 3.75
Sunderland 4.25

Verdict

Both teams have shown defensive vulnerabilities in recent weeks while Everton’s matches in particular have produced plenty of goals lately. Sunderland are capable of contributing offensively which should lead to opportunities at both ends but I am backing Everton to take the win.

BET: Everton to Win at 1.87

Newcastle United vs West Ham

Newcastle United hold the 13th spot on the log with 46 points and have struggled for momentum throughout the season. They have recorded thirteen wins, seven draws and sixteen defeats while managing 50 goals and shipping 52.

They bounced back from four consecutive defeats with a 3-1 victory over Brighton before drawing 1-1 away to Nottingham Forest in their latest fixture.

West Ham remain 18th on the table with 36 points and continue to occupy the final relegation spot with time running out. They have battled in front of goal netting just 42 time while their defence has been generous, letting 62 past their keeper.

They lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal on Sunday where they had a late equaliser disallowed and that came after suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Brentford but before those setbacks they picked up a 2-1 win over Everton and held Crystal Palace to a goalless draw.

Head-to-Head

West Ham claimed a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season while Newcastle won 1-0 away from home in this matchup last campaign. The previous clash at St James’ Park ended in a 2-0 triumph for West Ham.

Newcastle United 2.15
Draw 3.85
West Ham 3.25

Verdict

Newcastle have been stronger at home and should create enough chances against a West Ham side that has struggled defensively for most of the season. Despite that west Ham have found reasonable success against Newcastle in previous meetings and given their desperation I think they will perform well on Sunday and can get the win that keeps their EPL 26/27 hopes alive.

BET: West Ham to Win at 3.25
