They shared the spoils with Chelsea in a 1-1 draw at Anfield last weekend after falling short in a dramatic 3-2 encounter away against Manchester United. The Reds had built encouraging momentum prior to those results with consecutive victories over Crystal Palace and Everton, finding the back of the net five times across the two matches.

Liverpool have enjoyed success in this fixture over recent seasons and defeated Aston Villa 2-0 earlier in the current campaign at Anfield. The last meeting at Villa Park produced four goals in an entertaining 2-2 draw after Liverpool won the reverse fixture 2-0.

Verdict:
Aston Villa have shown plenty of attacking intent at home this season but their recent inability to consistently shut opponents out remains an issue heading into a clash against one of the league’s stronger front lines. With both teams level on points the importance of this fixture should mean plenty of intention and hopefully attacking intent.
Liverpool appear slightly more reliable in the attacking department and their recent record in this matchup provides further encouragement. Villa are still likely to create opportunities at home which could contribute to an open contest with chances at both ends throughout the ninety minutes.
