The PGA Tour gears up for the Truist Championship this weekend, another signature event which was previously known as the Wells Fargo Championship. We look at this week’s golf from a betting angle and select 4 players to take on the bookmakers.
The Course
The tournament returns to the Quail Hollow Club this year after being played at the Wissahickon Course last year.
Quail Hollow Club is a par-71 layout stretching to 7,538 yards (6,893 meters) in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally designed by George Cobb in 1961, Tom Fazio has overseen major renovations in 1997, 2003 and 2016 to keep the course relevant against the modern power game. Tree-lined fairways, undulating Bermuda grass greens and demanding green complexes make it one of the toughest tests on the PGA Tour calendar.
The defining feature is the “Green Mile”, the brutal closing stretch of holes 16, 17 and 18, where a precise par-3 is sandwiched between two punishing par-4s. Championships are won and lost here. The course rewards long, accurate driving and a strong all-round game from tee to green. Quail Hollow has hosted the Truist Championship since 2003 and also staged the PGA Championship in 2017 and 2025

Selections:
Rory McIlroy at 6.50
McIlroy returns off the back of defending his Masters title at Augusta just a few weeks ago and is heading to a course where he has seen major success over the years. He has won the tournament four times, with his first victory back in 2010 and his most recent in 2024. In his last nine starts at the event, excluding 2025 when it was not played at Quail Hollow, he has finished in the top 10 on six occasions. The World Number Two will be looking to continue his strong start to the season and with Scheffler sitting out, he is going to be tough to beat.
Suggested bet: Rory McIlroy win only at 6.50.
Xander Schauffele at 11.00
In the last two Truist Championships/Wells Fargo tournaments hosted at Quail Hollow, Xander Schauffele finished runner-up on both occasions. Schauffele has also found some really solid form recently, with three top-10 finishes and a top-15 finish in his last four starts. He currently sits seventh overall for strokes gained on the PGA Tour, but the stat that jumps out is that he is ranked third on tour for scrambling. At a course like Quail Hollow where bad shots get punished, being able to scramble well is going to be key, and if he can get that right we could see him finally get his win.
Suggested bet: Xander Schauffele each way at 11.00.
Rickie Fowler at 36.00
It seems as if we are at a stage on the PGA Tour where the top four players in the world are winning every week. In all of the last three tournaments on tour, either McIlroy, Young or Fitzpatrick have won, while Scheffler has been in contention in nearly every tournament he has played in the last few months. This makes it hard to pick outside bets, but for this week we are going to look at Rickie Fowler. The Californian has seen real success at Quail Hollow before, recording a win, two top-five finishes and a sixth-place finish. He is also coming off the back of two top-10 finishes in the last two signature events, ninth at the Miami Championship and eighth at the RBC Heritage. If he can carry this momentum into this weekend at a course he knows well, we could see another strong result from him and maybe even a return to former glory.
Suggested bet: Rickie Fowler each way at 36.00.
Alex Noren at 76.00
Noren looks a very solid longshot at this price, particularly for a demanding venue like Quail Hollow where he was 24th in 2024. This course places a premium on tee-to-green control, patience, and scrambling, all of which are key strengths of his game.
He tends to perform well on tougher setups where scoring is not a free-for-all, and Quail Hollow’s “Green Mile” rewards experienced, disciplined players who can limit mistakes. Noren’s consistency and ability to grind out pars under pressure make him well suited to that test and he is coming off a top 10 finish last week in Miami.
Suggested Bet: Alex Noren each way at 76.00.
