ARSENAL vs CHELSEA
Arsenal head into the second leg with a narrow advantage after an impressive performance in the opening meeting where they won 3-2 away from home. The Gunners showed their usual composure, controlling long spells of possession and limiting Chelsea to very few clear opportunities. At Emirates they have been particularly strong this tournament and will feel confident finishing the job on home soil.
They have built their campaign on defensive organisation and patience in the final third. Across the competition they have conceded just 3 goals while scoring freely on the other end to net 9 goals.
Arsenal continue to top the EPL and are coming off a 4-0 away win over Leeds United.
Chelsea arrive needing a positive result and will have to show attacking intent but also keep things tighter at the back than they managed in the first leg. The Blues have been dangerous going forward in the tournament, scoring 12 goals but they have also conceded 8 times.
Chelsea have won 5 matches in a row in all competitions and on the weekend beat West Ham 3-2 at home and they currently sit 5th in the EPL.
Head-to-Head
The first leg finished in a tight contest with Arsenal edging matters, continuing a trend of closely fought encounters between the sides. Earlier this season in the league the teams played out a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, while last term Arsenal claimed a 1-0 victory at Emirates after another stalemate in the reverse fixture.

Verdict
With Arsenal holding the advantage and playing at home, Chelsea will be expected to take risks at some stage. That should create opportunities for the Gunners to manage the game and strike on the counter. I am expecting a tactical battle early but I expect the goals could flow at some point, especially given Chelsea’s recent run of high scoring games and given that Arsenal can afford to soak up pressure before striking I think they will get the win.
