Match 22 Preview
Pretoria Capitals
Pretoria come into this match with renewed momentum after a disciplined 21-run win over the Paarl Royals in Match 19 at Boland Park. Batting first, they posted 138/9 and had to graft for every run, with Sherfane Rutherford top-scoring with an unbeaten 42 off 35 balls in a total that never looked above-par.
The difference was Pretoria’s bowling control through the middle overs: Keshav Maharaj returned 2/14 from four overs, and the Capitals turned the screws restricting the hosts to 117/6.
That win followed the Capitals’ earlier high point in Match 16 at Kingsmead where Shai Hope produced a tournament-defining innings, smashing 118* off 69 as Pretoria posted 201/4 and held on to beat Durban by 15 runs. The combination of Hope finding form and the bowling unit tightening up (especially when defending) is a welcome shift for a side that had been inconsistent early.
MI Cape Town
MI Cape Town finally delivered the type of complete performance their squad has threatened all season in Match 20, hammering Joburg Super Kings by 36 runs at the Wanderers. They piled up 234/3, with Ryan Rickelton’s 113* off 60 the headline act.
With the ball George Linde (2/30) bowled an important controlling spell that insured JSK were always behind the run rate.
Previous meeting in this tournament
These teams have already met once, and it was one-way traffic. Pretoria Capitals beat MI Cape Town by 85 runs in Match 8 at Newlands, posting 220/5 (with Wihan Lubbe making 60 off 36) before bowling MI out for 135. Sherfane Rutherford was outstanding with the ball, taking 4/24, as Pretoria claimed a bonus-point win.
The dynamic is different this time around: MI Cape Town arrive off their best batting performance of the season, while Pretoria’s confidence is up after back-to-back wins and their ability to defend totals has improved markedly.

Selected Betting Options
Pretoria Capitals to Win @ 2.35
MI Cape are coming off a massive win with the old guard of Rickelton and Van der Dussen firing up front. The Capitals have some match winners in their mix though and I think they look well priced to all but end the MI Cape Town interest in the SA20.
Top MI Cape Town Batter – Ryan Rickelton @3.85
Rickelton is in the kind of form where he can take the game away in the powerplay and still bat deep. After 113* in Match 20, he looks the clearest route to MICT posting a winning score again.
Top Pretoria Capitals Batter – Shai Hope @3.65
Hope’s 118* in Match 16 was a statement, and Pretoria’s batting looks far more functional when he is anchoring and allowing Rutherford and the middle order to play with freedom. If Pretoria are to upset MICT, another substantial Hope innings is the most likely driver.
Match Sixes over 16.5 @1.87
Both teams are packed with rope clearers and Centurion Park is a ground where the batsman tend to dominate. There were 16 sixes in the only completed match at this ground back in match 2 and that was a relatively low scoring affair.
