The Joburg Super Kings face Durban’s Super Giants at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday, 1 January 2026, with the teams having met as recently as Match 6 in Durban.
This is Match 9 of the SA20 League, and it shapes as an important early-season clash with both sides firmly in the playoff conversation but needing to keep momentum.

Following two wins from their opening two matches, Joburg Super Kings have shortened in the outright market and are now priced at 5.00 to win the SA20.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape continue to set the pace at the top of the standings and are the clear second favourites at 4.25, while defending champions MI Cape Town remain market leaders at 3.00 despite a slow start.
Durban’s Super Giants have drifted slightly after a mixed opening run and are now available at 5.00, with Pretoria Capitals and Paarl Royals further out at 12.00 and 11.00 respectively.
Match 9 Preview
Joburg Super Kings have made an excellent start to the tournament, winning both of their opening matches and sitting second on the points table with 9 points, including a bonus-point win. Their most recent performance was particularly impressive, dismantling the Durban’s Super Giants at Kingsmead on Wednesday, skittling them for 86 before chasing the target down inside 13 overs.
The bowling unit has been outstanding, with Prenelan Subrayen, Richard Gleeson, and Duan Jansen all making telling contributions.
Durban’s Super Giants, meanwhile, have endured a stop-start beginning to their campaign. After their strong opening win over MI Cape Town, they were denied momentum by a rain-affected no result against the same side before suffering a heavy defeat to the Super Kings. With 6 points from 3 matches, they remain competitive but they will need their top batsman like Conway, Williamson and Markram to put the Durban loss behind them and they will also be looking for star middle order bat Klaasen to hit form.
The Wanderers traditionally rewards positive batting but can also offer movement early on and with recent heavy rains in the area I suspect this could be a lower scoring encounter than the bookies price up.

Suggested Bets
Bet: Joburg Super Kings to Win @ 2.05
JSK have really impressed and I am backing this on price alone as I don’t think they should be underdogs given their start. The bookies expect DSG to bounce back and they might but the value lies with the brilliantly led home team who have far greater depth than what I gave them credit for at the start of the tournament.
Bet: Top Joburg Super Kings Bowler – Prenelan Subrayen @5.00
Subrayen was outstanding in Match 6 and destroyed the DSG top order. He was beaten to top bowler honours thanks to Gleeson’s late burst (3 wickets for 2 runs) but his 3-16 in 4 overs was genuinely match altering.
Possible Bet: Under Team Total on side batting 1st at around 175.5
We should get more runs than what we saw in Durban but as mentioned above I suspect conditions could be tricky due to recent weather and an unders play could pay dividends
