India and South Africa open their five-match T20 international series in Cuttack on Tuesday 9 December. With the tour finely poised after India hit back strongly in the ODIs, we take a look at the opener from a betting perspective.
Tour Update
South Africa began the tour on a high, winning the two-match Test series 2–0. India then responded superbly in the ODIs, taking the series decider this past weekend in emphatic fashion, a nine-wicket demolition that underlined their limited-overs strength.
The final leg of the tour now shifts to the shortest format, with five T20s to be played across the next two weeks.
Team Form Guide
India – Recent Form
India have been one of the most consistent T20 outfits over the past year:
- Australia (away, Oct/Nov): India claimed the series 2–1, with two matches washed out.
- Asia Cup (Sep): Dominated the competition and beat Pakistan in the final in Dubai.
- England (home, Jan/Feb): Impressive 4–1 series victory.
India’s combinations remain settled and they arrive with strong momentum after the ODI turnaround.
South Africa – Recent Form
South Africa’s T20 record has been more mixed:
- Pakistan (away, Oct/Nov): Won the opener by 55 runs before losing the next two to concede the series 2–1.
- Namibia (Windhoek): A weakened Proteas side suffered a shock defeat in the one-off match.
- England (away, Sep): Series drawn 1–1 with the final match rained off.
- Australia (away, Aug): Lost the series 2–1.
There have been flashes of promise, but consistency has eluded the Proteas in this format.
Head-to-Head Record
The teams last met in South Africa in November 2024, when India claimed a 3–1 series victory.
Overall in T20 internationals:
- India wins: 18
- South Africa wins: 12
- No results: 1
India hold the historical edge, particularly in recent years.

Suggested Bets
Top South Africa Batter – Quinton de Kock @ 4.00
De Kock has looked sharp since returning to international cricket and in T20s he only needs a handful of overs to take control. At this price he represents solid value to top-score for the Proteas.
Top South Africa Wicket-Taker – Corbin Bosch @ 5.25
Bosch has enjoyed a productive tour, and while opponents often target him, that aggression frequently brings wicket-taking opportunities. He looks an attractive runner at the price.
