English Premier League Betting Preview, Saturday 4 October
We take a look at three Premier League fixtures this Saturday, starting with Leeds United hosting Tottenham Hotspur, before Manchester United face newly-promoted Sunderland, and concluding with a blockbuster clash between Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Each game promises plenty of talking points, with teams looking to build momentum, respond to setbacks, or make a statement in the early weeks of the season.
Looking at the Premier League title market ahead of this weekend’s action, Arsenal sit at 5/4 as favourites after a strong start, with Liverpool close behind at 7/4. Manchester City are next at 5/1, while Chelsea remain outsiders at 33/1. The rest of the field can be snapped up at 50/1 or longer.

LEEDS UNITED v TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR – Click here to bet
Leeds United remain at home this weekend where they play host to Spurs in Saturday’s early kick-off. Following last week’s 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth, Daniel Farke’s side sit 12th with eight points from six matches (W2 D2 L2). They are unbeaten in their last two Premier League starts, picking up four points, and their matches have started to open up, with eight goals scored in their last two outings. At Elland Road, Leeds remain unbeaten this campaign with two draws and a win, and they will hope home comforts can provide a springboard for another result against a top-six opponent.
Tottenham Hotspur travel to Yorkshire aiming to bounce back from successive draws, including last weekend’s 1-1 stalemate with Wolves and a midweek 2-2 draw in the Champions League against Bodo/Glimt. Thomas Frank’s men have otherwise made a solid start, sitting fourth with 11 points, losing just once in six league matches. Their away form has been especially impressive, with seven points from a possible nine, scoring seven goals and conceding just two, the best defensive away record in the league. Spurs will see this as an ideal chance to underline their credentials against a Leeds side that has shown flashes of quality but still looks vulnerable.
Head-to-Head
The sides last met in 2022/23 when Spurs completed the double, winning 4-3 at home and 4-1 at Elland Road.
Betting
Leeds United 18/10
Draw 5/2
Tottenham Hotspur 15/10
Verdict
Leeds United have been solid at home and unbeaten at Elland Road, but Spurs away form has been excellent with seven points from nine and the best defensive record on the road. Leeds can cause problems, but Spurs just look that bit sharper and more balanced right now, and I fancy them to edge this one.
Suggested Bet: Full Time Result – Tottenham Hotspur at 15/10
MANCHESTER UNITED v SUNDERLAND – Click here to bet
Manchester United return to Old Trafford desperate for answers when they take on newly-promoted Sunderland. A 3-1 defeat away at Brentford last weekend made it three losses from six, leaving Rúben Amorim’s men languishing in 14th with seven points. Defensive frailties continue to be their undoing, conceding 11 goals while scoring just seven, despite significant summer investment. At home, things have been slightly more positive, with six points from a possible nine, though they remain far from convincing.
Sunderland, by contrast, have impressed on their return to the top flight, sitting as high as fifth with 11 points. Régis Le Bris’ side come into this clash unbeaten in four after last weekend’s 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest. On the road, their form is improving, with a clean sheet at Palace followed by a well-earned victory at the City Ground. The Black Cats look well-drilled, disciplined, and confident enough to ask questions of a fragile United side.
Head-to-Head
This will be the first meeting between the clubs since 2016/17, when United secured a league double with 3-1 and 3-0 victories.
Betting
Manchester United 5/10
Draw 15/4
Sunderland 5/1
Verdict
United have shown more stability at Old Trafford with two wins from three, but they’re still leaking goals and look far from settled. Sunderland, on the other hand, are riding the momentum of a strong start and won’t fear this trip. With the visitors organised and confident, I like the look of both teams to get on the scoresheet in this one.
Suggested Bet: Both Teams to Score – Yes at 8/10
CHELSEA v LIVERPOOL – Click here to bet
Saturday evening’s action closes with a heavyweight clash at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea host Liverpool. Enzo Maresca’s men have struggled for consistency in the early stages of the campaign, winning just two of six league games. Their midweek Champions League win over Benfica (1-0) provided a lift, but last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton highlighted ongoing vulnerabilities. Chelsea sit eighth with eight points, and while they had previously looked solid at home with back-to-back clean sheets, that defensive stability fell apart against the Seagulls.
Liverpool, meanwhile, arrive under pressure following back-to-back defeats. After losing 2-1 at Crystal Palace, they were edged out 1-0 by Galatasaray in midweek Champions League action. Arne Slot’s side remain top of the Premier League with 15 points, but their momentum has stalled and questions are being asked of their attack, with Alexander Isak still seeking his breakthrough moment. The Reds have won two of three away games in the league this season but will need a stronger performance than they showed at Selhurst Park if they are to avoid slipping again.
Head-to-Head
The sides shared the spoils last season, each winning once. Chelsea won this fixture 3-1, while Liverpool edged the reverse meeting 2-1. The Blues are unbeaten in their last four league meetings at Stamford Bridge (W1 D3).
Betting
Chelsea 19/10
Draw 11/4
Liverpool 13/10
Verdict
Chelsea are still trying to find rhythm in the new campaign and look vulnerable despite flashes of quality, while Liverpool suddenly find themselves under pressure after back-to-back defeats. Both sides have goals in them, but neither looks watertight at the back. I can see chances at both ends and goals on the night.
Suggested Bet: Totals and Both Teams to Score – Over 2.5 and Yes at 15/20
