The Lions head into this weekend’s semi-final in strong form, having won three of their last four matches. Their most recent outing was an emphatic 37–7 victory over the Griquas at Ellis Park, a result that secured top spot on the log and plenty of momentum.
Boland, on the other hand, arrive on the back of two consecutive defeats after stringing together three wins in a row earlier in the campaign. Last week they suffered a 40–22 loss away to Western Province, raising questions about their ability to bounce back in knockout rugby.
Head-to-Head
The Cavaliers can take confidence from their earlier clash with the Lions in the pool stages. On that day in Wellington, Boland produced one of their standout performances of the season to claim a 29–10 victory.
Betting and Verdict
The Lions are favourites to win the match and are trading at 1.12 while Boland are trading at 7.00 for the win with the draw currently at 31.00.
Boland have surprised punters throughout the competition with gritty displays and the odd upset. If any team looks capable of springing a shock in the semi-finals, it’s them.
Handicap: Lions [-16.5] at 1.85
BET: Boland to win at 7.00.
Griquas v Cheetahs – click here to bet
The Griquas head into the semi-finals after finishing second on the table, winning five of their seven pool matches. They’ll want to bounce back from a tough 37–7 loss to the Lions last weekend, but home advantage in Kimberley could prove crucial.
The Cheetahs claimed third place with four wins from seven but arrive under pressure after back-to-back defeats. They lost heavily to the Griquas in Round 6 and were edged 35–31 by the Bulls in Round 7.
Head-to-Head
The most recent meeting between these two sides came just two weeks ago in Bloemfontein, where the Griquas dominated from start to finish, running out convincing 40–10 winners.
Betting and Verdict
The Griquas are favourites to win the match and are trading at 1.33 while the Cheetahs are trading at 3.50. The draw is currently at 26.00.
The Griquas were able to beat the Cheetahs by 30 points only two weeks ago and I think they will be able to get the job done at home this weekend.
Handicap: Griquas [-8.5] at 1.85
BET: Handicap, Griquas [-8.5] at 1.85
