1st ODI – England vs South Africa Summary
The series opener at Headingley was a nightmare outing for England. Sent into bat, they collapsed to 131 all out before the 25 over mark. South Africa’s bowlers on the other hand executed their plans superbly, with Keshav Maharaj claiming figures of 4 for 22 runs, exploiting turn and bounce throughout his spell, and he was well accompanied by Wiaan Mulder, who took 3 for 33.
England’s top and middle order looked shaky, with only Jamie Smith showing resistance. His fluent 54 off 48 balls was the lone highlight in an otherwise dismal batting effort.
South Africa’s chase was ruthless and efficient. Aiden Markram blasted 86 from just 55 deliveries, taking the attack to England’s seamers from the start. At the other end, Ryan Rickelton played the perfect supporting role with an unbeaten 31, guiding the Proteas to the target in only 20.5 overs for a seven-wicket win.
The star performer on the English side with ball in hand was Adil Rashid who put in a solid solo effort to pick up 3 wickets for 26 runs across his 3.5 over spell.
The result underlined South Africa’s growing confidence and balance in the ODI format, while England looked short of ideas and form.

Suggested Bets:
Top South Africa Batter – Ryan Rickelton at 4.20
Fresh from his brilliant supporting knock, I am looking to Rickelton to play a similar anchor role, hopefully emerging with the top score.
Top South Africa Bowler – Keshav Maharaj at 3.60
Maharaj has been on top form for a number of games now and it is tough to look past him for the pick to claim best bowling figures within his team.
South Africa win at 2.30
A better performance from England seems a given but based on South Africa’s dominance in the 1st ODI this seems a generous price.
