Amgen Irish Open 2025 Betting Preview
This week the DP World Tour heads to Ireland for the Amgen Irish Open at The K Club, with a strong field in attendance. We will size up the test, then look at the tournament from a betting angle with a few suggested plays.
Course
The Irish Open returns to The K Club’s Palmer North course in Straffan, County Kildare. It is a classic Arnold Palmer parkland layout that rewards strategy and precise course management rather than pure power. Expect tree-lined fairways, well-placed bunkers, and plenty of water shaping decisions from tee to green. The course plays at just over 7,400 yards (6,804 metres), par 72, with the River Liffey running through the property and water influencing 13 of the 18 holes.
Notable stretches include the risk-reward par-5 16th (Inis Mor), where bold second shots flirt with water, and the picturesque par-4 17th (Half Moon), which asks for a shaped tee shot to set up the approach. Early par-4s such as the 4th and 7th set the tone by rewarding discipline off the tee. The venue has serious pedigree, having hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup as multiple Irish Opens and European Opens.
What kind of player suits The K Club
Look for disciplined, positional golfers who value finding fairways, control trajectory with their mid-irons, and make smart decisions under pressure. Prioritise players who rate well in fairways gained, strokes-gained approach, proximity from 150–200 metres, and bogey avoidance. A composed temperament is important given the water-heavy finishing stretch, and contenders will pair solid scrambling with a steady putter to convert those 8–15 foot chances.
Past Winners (different venues)
2024 Rasmus Hojgaard (Denmark) -9 1 stroke
2023 Vincent Norman (Sweden) -14 1 stroke
2022 Adrian Meronk (Poland) -20 3 strokes

2020 John Catlin (United Sates) -10 2 strokes

SELECTIONS
Marco Penge (15.00) – Each Way
Penge arrives in standout form, stringing together multiple top-ten finishes and a recent win in Denmark. His current confidence, tidy iron play, and willingness to plot his way around suit The K Club. Motivation should be high after narrowly missing out on Ryder Cup selection, and his trend points to another big week.
Bet: Marco Penge each way at 15.00.
Thriston Lawrence (46.00) – Each Way
Lawrence is fresh off an impressive victory at the Omega European Masters, where he held firm under Sunday pressure. Momentum is on his side, and his balanced tee-to-green profile fits a course that rewards accuracy and smart course management. At this price, he offers solid each-way value.
Bet: Thriston Lawrence each way at 46.00.
Rory McIlroy (4.60) – Win
McIlroy returns to his home open at a venue where he has lifted the trophy, backed by a supportive crowd and a game that thrives on strategic layouts. A recent reset should sharpen his focus, and his ceiling remains the highest in the field. If he finds fairways and controls his approaches, he will be very hard to beat.
Bet: Rory McIlroy to win at 4.60.
