The 2025 UEFA Super Cup takes place at Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy, on Wednesday evening, featuring an intriguing clash between reigning Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur, with European bragging rights firmly up for grabs.

Paris Saint-Germain enjoyed a spectacular 2024/25 campaign, capturing their 13th Ligue 1 title in dominant fashion. Luis Enrique’s side also continued their domestic supremacy by clinching the Trophee des Champions for the sixth consecutive year and lifted their 16th Coupe de France trophy.
The crowning achievement came on the continental stage, where PSG secured their first-ever Champions League title with a resounding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in a one-sided final, showcasing their attacking firepower and tactical discipline. Despite this glittering success, the Parisians will be keen to redeem themselves after a disappointing summer, having suffered a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, which abruptly ended their recent streak of continental dominance.
Tottenham Hotspur arrive in Italy with contrasting fortunes. While their Europa League triumph last season—securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the final—brought much-needed silverware and European qualification, their domestic form told a different story. Spurs finished a worrying 17th in the English Premier League, just 13 points above the relegation zone, a drop attributed largely to the demands of European football impacting league consistency.
Under new management, Thomas Frank now faces the challenge of restoring Spurs’ Premier League fortunes while aiming to capture his first trophy in charge by toppling a star-studded PSG side. The Londoners will look to replicate the surprise success their city rivals Chelsea managed last month in the same competition, but the gulf in class and overall form means it will require a monumental effort.
Head-to-Head
This is the first official meeting between PSG and Tottenham Hotspur in European competition, although the two sides faced off once before in the 2017 International Champions Cup, where Spurs secured a 4-2 victory.
Betting
PSG 4/9
Draw 4/1
Tottenham Hotspur 11/2
Verdict
With both sides having to balance midweek European football alongside domestic duties at the weekend, it will be interesting to see how they line up on Wednesday. That said, with Spurs coming off a difficult domestic campaign, one eye could well be on their opening EPL clash this Saturday. PSG are resounding favourites at 4/9—and rightfully so, given the exceptional form they showed last season. I expect them to have far too much quality for Spurs in this one.
